Do people still use old oil to run their car/van

Do modern engines still run on old/used cooking oil etc? Do you do it? How do you do it? And how much cheaper is it doing it?

Can't do it on common rail engines with out "washing" the oil first. Old diesel (it's all about the fuel pump) just stick it straight in.

I ran my Astra on wvo for about four years during the warmer months and it loved it.
