Hi paws. I posted on your diary right back at the beginning before disappearing for seven months  but back now and catching up with everyone. Also finally figured out how to subscribe and then find the threads I have subscribed to :rotfl:
Have loved reading through your journey, redundancy is horrible, my husband lost his job in April '16 and was out of work for 13months, but now has a fantastic job at a brilliant company so it all worked out, although it was a stressful year.
Sounds like you have had a fun time these last few months, but you only turn 40 once, we went to Vegas and did the whole Elvis renewal of vows, biggest holiday we have ever had!
Look forward to reading your brilliant lists again.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉0 -
Welcome back Paws.
You’ve done really well to pay off so much & at least your gift money went towards experiences rather than more “stuff”. All we seem to have done is add to our debt!
Good luck on the no credit card spending, I’m sure you’ll manage it.
Thanks Sashybo, thanks for putting that way. I worry now that we literally fall into that cliche of being in debt because we have a flash car and fancy holidays. (Mr Paws has an Audi A5):eek:Hi BOP
We have just completed a whole year without using a CC ( not that we have any to use now anyway). I never thought it possible as we got into the habit of ‘oh well which card shall we use’. It’s amazing that we are still here, still surviving and managing our finances. It just goes to show that it can be done.
Good luck on your fresh new year plans and you have paid off a massive amount this year Well done you :T
I spoke too soon, we couldn't get through Christmas without the CC sadly. We will have to just grin and bear it.
From 1st Jan, no more credit card :cool:Cumbria_lass wrote: »Yay Paws , you have done really well this year. I haven't used a cc for 12 months apart from my blip on a website the other day.
This time next year we will be nearly debt free.
Sadly, I won't be. It's going to take me at least another 2 years. YOU, on the other hand, are doing fantastically :TDebt Jan 2017 = £42kMay 2022 = £15k0 -

That seems like a good starting point to aim for on paying off debt - and as you say, I just bet you can do better as well! :T

Happy February everyone
I hope eveyone is well. So much for posting more often...Lets get straight back to it. I will try to summarise the last year
Good things :j- Husband was not made redundant
- Husband now works Monday to Friday
- Apart from when he works weekends. Which is overtime. Which he does alot
- I havent been made redundant, in fact I have a slightly different new job which should be better.
- We have been on 3 holidays last year, showing that life doesnt need to stop just because you're paying back money
- House, cars and, most importantly, family are all well.
- We have paid back £15k ish since we started a little over a year ago, so the debt busting has actually gone quite well
- We probably could have tried harder/done better.
- We will still have £25k debt when we come to remortgage in the summer
- Im a bit fatter (and lazier) than this time last year
Current debt
Barclaycard £ 2,209.30
Lloyds £ 4,802.05
MBNA £ 3,925.00
Tesco £ 6,722.63

Car loan £ 4,535.16
Total £ 27,819.22Debt Jan 2017 = £42kMay 2022 = £15k0 -

- We probably could have tried harder/done better. When you stop thinking that way complacency has set in. Complacency is bad. That makes this a good thing,
not a bad thing... - We will still have £25k debt when we come to remortgage in the summer Which is less than the 40k you would have had had you not embarked on this mission, yes?
- Im a bit fatter (and lazier) than this time last year Eat less, move more.
The first is good for the debt busting, the second is good for you.
You're doing fine - this time of year is a good one for reviewing the small stuff I've always found - with the cold weather making indoor (and thus cheaper) pursuits more tempting than outdoor ones in particular it pays to cash in on that.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Time for reflection is always good, EH is right, if you hadn't started this journey you would be in a much worse financial pickle.

Hi paws :hello:
Nice to see you posting again. :T Your good things list is much longer than the bad things one, which is another good thing. :j:DSuccess is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
