I'd definitely do it on an X5. Its a big body to haul about with circa 230BHP as standard.
It made mine a hoot to drive.0 -
My brother in law gives poor advice to his relatives. His nephew was asking about remapping and whether he should tell his insurance co about it. My brother in law said he needn't bother. After my brother in law had left the room, I told his nephew that was he was suggesting was crazy and if he wrote the car off he would have been in !!!! creek without a paddle. Thankfully he followed my advice as his car was written off a few months later...0

It would, yes.
Thats the twin turbo version of the 30D, which is the same engine i had in my two 535ds. Remaps to around 350 / 360BHP and 500lb/ft of torque.
At the time i bought mine new, the 40D was called the 30sd - i'd have had a crack at one but got my X5 as a cancelled order, so got a good deal on it that made it too tempting to pass by at the time.0 -

It would be interesting to know how/if they would check to the level of ECU mods. From my understanding it's only if you download and compare to a stock map that you'd be able to see any difference. Unlike wheels or lowering there is absolutely no physical sign that a car is mapped or notRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

+1
I've never particularly heard of them bothering, although its not beyond the realms of possibility.0 -
Some ECUs have flash counters that could give the game away.
I tend to put the stock map back on when the car goes in for a service.0
