Formal warning for defecating in the lift

Ridiculous as that sounds. It happened to me.

At work we have a lift that goes from the loading bay to the store room. The lift broke down with me inside it and it took over 2 hours for the engineers to get the lift started again to get me out. I needed a poo whilst I was trapped and I did hold it as long as I could but the pain was becoming unbearable so I had to poo in the lift. I had an investigation with the manager because the poo was reported by the supervisor as misconduct. Today in the post I received a formal warning for misconduct. How on earth have I commited misconduct when I was trapped in a lift for over 2 hours?

I'd've thought the embarrassment of the situation would be punishment enough.

It is up to your managers though, and really there isn't a lot you can do about it other than follow internal procedures regarding appealing.

You said you got a warning in the post, though, is it a formal written/final written warning? As really you should have had a hearing, with a right to be accompanied or represented, did that happen?

When you were released from the lift, did you clean up after yourself, or did you leave this for someone else to do?

If it had been me, I would have cleaned it up myself (as much as I could) and then found the cleaning staff.

I was taught early in my career to be kind to cleaners (and secretaries, not that that's relevant here), so am on first name terms with them.

But ... strange to get a warning in the post. Surely that can't have followed the employers procedures. Time to get your staff handbook out.

So, did you clean up your mess after you were rescued from the lift, or did you leave it steaming for some other poor soul to deal with it?

Depends though, may have been runny or explosive, its the reason i use disabled toilets because 90% of people have rotten guts and I'd rather not listen to the crap that exists their body.

Tbh I dont think id be able to face anyone at work if I did that and I think id sooner poo my pants and go straight home as soon as I get out the lift.

You could have probably turtled it to relieve the strain, massive balancing act, worst case you poo your pants or touch cloth. Full on poo on the floor though lol.
