Just an update that a final notice letter has come through.
What exactly have you received. Is it headed 'Letter Before County Court Claim'? If not what does it say (actual heading and gist of contents)?

    Hi Umkomaas, thanks for replying.
Letter says FINAL NOTICE and writes regarding an above referenced parking charge. Says 28 days has now passed and we haven't appealed POPLA (more like couldn't because we didn't do it in time). Payment is now required in 14 days to prevent further action.

Let me know if you need more info or a picture.

Now is not the time to consider settling with them (if that really is your intention to give them money so they can chase and harass the next unfortunate, who may be even more vulnerable than you, and perhaps has to use their entire fortnight's food budget to pay this).

This 'notice' has no immediate consequence. It's time to wait and see what their subsequent moves are. Should they issue court papers (and not every landowner authorises them to do so), you can (if you're determined to pay) negotiate a 'full and final' settlement, which will likely be less than they're asking for now.

As the small claims court has significant restrictions on costs that a winning claimant can demand from a losing defendant, the cost of court action by PE more often than not comes at a loss to them, therefore they will often negotiate.

    As always, your call.

take your wife back there and shame them into cancelling this discriminatory charge.

What happened when you did that, or emailed the retailers?

Umkomaas, that is not my intention. Thank you for the info though, I feel better equipped to take it further now.

Coupon-mad, as mentioned it isn't easy for us to get down. Stupidly I hadn't even considered emailing. Will give that a shot!

Thank you both for your help though, it really is appreciated.

Email the 'contact us' address for each Head Office, and also complain publicly on their Facebook/Twitter.

    Just an update.
So my wife tried contacting the gym who responded with that there is nothing they can do. Emails are still in progress.
We've also had a letter from a claims company saying that the matter had been passed to them ... as per the FAQ we're ignoring it.
