Which credit card should I get for earning free flights?

Options
I'm not a frequent flyer never use credit cards before, Would like to get a card where I can earn points and use it when ever I want and no expiry date of when I have to use those points. Are there any of those types of credit cards?

There are cards that offer airline rewards, listed at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/airline-credit-cards, although you'd need to check with the rules of each individual scheme about points expiry.

However, if you don't have any credit history then you may not be eligible for these as they're typically offered to those who've built up a credit rating - try https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/credit-cards/ to see what you might be eligible for....

There are a number of factors.
    1. How much are you spending a month?
    2. What sort of flights are you hoping to go on i.e USA, Asia etc as this can affect what type of card you want
    3. How good your credit score is?

A good start is the Amex Gold which offers membership rewards which can be transferred to both AVIOS and Virgin miles and also hotel points, PM me if you would like a referral or any other assistance.

I've been collecting for over a year and have booked 4 one way upper class flights using miles.
  • You won't get any free flights - it's still compulsory to pay taxes when you have a points redemption ticket. Sometimes these taxes alone are close to or higher than the cheapest cash ticket.

If you're flying to European countries with British Airways then the taxes are fixed at a very cheap rate.

To get any value out of points, you have to be tactical as to how you use them - and you need a lot of them to redeem anything. If you aren't a frequent flyer, that means spending several thousand a month on cards with membership fees or making use of promotions which often means you are paying for the points.

Points are overrated, unless you can accrue a lot of them for free or only want to redeem once every few years!
