Nationwide FlexOne ID

My 17yr old has just applied for this account online and on the last page after acceptance it said he should take ID into a branch before they can open the account.
But within 10 mins he had an acceptance email saying they are progressing with opening the account, if they need more info they'll get back to him within 5 days, and nothing on that to ask for ID in branch.
Does anyone know which is correct?

Yes, when you apply online it seems to do that. If Nationwide want him to take ID into the branch he will get a letter in the next 5 working days outlining the ID required from 2 lists :-)Saved Nitty Gritty £7440.75 [149%] / £5000-[Sep] £58.44:starmod: for the 'Save 12k in 2017' #157

When I opened a Nationwide account last year (a flex direct) I had an email asking me to take ID into branch, which was followed up with a letter a couple of days later. On taking ID in, the branch staff were bemused I had been asked to and said my identity had already been verified by 'electronic means'. I think it's a Nationwide thing.0

It's even worse when the system crashes whilst you are in the middle of a call to a bank/BSSaved Nitty Gritty £7440.75 [149%] / £5000-[Sep] £58.44:starmod: for the 'Save 12k in 2017' #157

I got the ID request (as an actual snail mail letter) despite being an existing customer. I didn't do anything and received the card etc with no problems
My wife, also as an existing customer, also got a request for ID when opening a new account online. As we were passing a branch anyway, she went in and they said they didn't need to see it.
A few days later, she got another letter saying that the ID she had taken into branch was insufficient.
She complained and received a tenner compo but they said they still needed her to bring in the ID. She didn't, but then the card arrived anyway.... (3 weeks after the initial application).
This is all true with no embellishments or exaggeration.0 -

@ J-b
in the middle or a call ?
only online for me, never leave it to the last minute !0 -
Nationwide are a massive PITA for doing this. They have also done it to me, and I even brought in the letter to show the branch staff, who were still confused. They copied and signed my ID, and told me I could send that if they asked again.
Although they didn't ask again, it saved me £10 on electronic identity checks when we remortgaged to them- just sent that copy and an original utility bill to the solicitor!0 -
@ f..9
I did say leave it a few days !
Have you done that and had a response yet,
apart from all the other expert replies.0
