Which brand printer ink is cheapest?

I'm researching which printer to buy to replace an old Epson that bit the dust. I print a lot, so ink costs are important, but don't want to faff with generic ink as I've had lots of problems with it in the past.
Which brand works out cheapest? HP is catching my eye at the moment.
Thanks

Get a laser. Generic toners aren't really a problem like inks are. You won't for example find blacks turning brown after 5/6 months. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I bought a HP Envy printer and signed up to the Instant Ink service.
It's saved me a fortune in ink!0 -
I would also suggest you consider the HP instant ink offeringIITYYHTBMAD0

I use compatible cartridges from a company called Refresh Cartridges in my Canon. They are a fraction of the cost of genuine cartridges and photos print perfectly. There is no brand name on the box, so they may be produced specially for Refresh.0

I've just bought a Brother DCP-J4120DW. I'm pleased with it. The paper loads wide side parallel to the front thereby reducing the front th rear dimensions.
Brother ink cartridges are expensive, but I am hoping that I can use compatibles once the starters are exhausted. I always used to buy compatibles for my now defunct HP DJ940C. They always worked well (from Cartridge People) when I had Windows XP but somehow it struggled with Win 7 and even worse with Win 10.0 -
Thanks for everyone's advice, in the end we managed to get the old printer working again.0

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Compatible-T1291-T1294-Cartridges-BX625FWD-WorkForce/dp/B019Y9WYVK/ref=sr_1_22?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1486294082&sr=1-22&keywords=printing+pleasure+ink+cartridges is what I buy - they are sooo cheap - compared to OEM ones and appear to last longer and the colours are the same and do not fade !
Why pay almost £10 per cartridge when you can get 30 for less than the price of 2 OEM ?0 -
I'm also looking for a cheap printer/cartridge combination.
I have a Canon Pixma which uses the PG-512 and CL-513 cartridges.
They seem to last no time at all, I don't know who is printing all these pages in the Slog household, but it certainly isn't the one paying for the blasted cartridges (ie ME!).
I'm guessing it's mainly used for photographs, but it would be far cheaper to go to the local supermarket and print them there
No way would I have bought this printer had I have known, what a rip off0 -
My Brother DCP-J4120DW used more than half the capacity of the three colour cartridges in what seemed like some sort of automatic maintenance operation.0
