Jury Service ( on Day off)

My brother has been requested to do Jury Service, it was his day off and actually when he got there, they told him they didn't need him.
I have been told that when you are requested to do jury service if you are working you get a paid day and, if you are off, the company is still owing you a rest day (whether you were requested to stay or not) as it is a day you still have attended the court (cancelling any other plans).
I have tried to find anything related to whether he is owed (or can claim) a rest day or half a rest day, but I cannot find anything. Is this information accurate?

No, its not accurate.
All an employer has to do (by law) is allow an employee unpaid time off work for jury service. That is it.
The employer does not owe him a rest-day as it was his normal day off. Rest is a rest from work not from other activities. Jury service is not work.0 -

No, it is not.
Jury service is a civic duty and it is your responsibility, not your employers.
Many choose to pay staff who are called for jury service but there is no legal obligation on the employer to do so. As stated above all they are obliged to do is give you unpaid leave and not treat you worse because of your absence (perhaps by refusing a promotion that you would otherwise have got etc etc).0 -

He would need to check whether his employer has any internal policy and if so, what it says.
As others have said, there is no legal right beyond the fact that the employer must allow employees unpaid time off for jury service, but individual companies may have more generous policies.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
