Can anyone recommend me gadget insurance for someone in nursing home?

I have a relative in a nursing home and we bought them a tablet to use whilst there. It's was bought for £100 around Xmas time.

Can anyone recommend a insurance cover for it?

I looked at protect my bubble website, but it mentions that precautions should be made to protect the item from theft... Which to me sounds like an easy get out clause.

Would having it taken from his nursing home room be covered?

There isn't anywhere to lock it away in his room by themselves as they are bed bound pretty much.

Thanks

Set lock codes or PIN's etc to make it useless for someone that may steal it and cross your fingers?

Having it in an unlocked area would exclude a lot of policies, especially when anyone and everyone could just walk in and take it.

Just lock it down and set a tracking app and keep those fingers crossed maybe the better option?

Problem is, the person using it finds unlock screens tricky.
  • You'll find most policies would have a £50/£75/£100 excess anyway, so at best you'd only claim £50.
Is it worth it? That's probably 6/7 months premiums for something like protect your bubble, why not stick that much away and self insure it?
  • I agree with the above - the time and effort and cost of insurance and chance your claim would be declined for the reasons given and the excess would halve any payout seem to make insurance a non-option.

Normally a simply pin would be ill-advised - but any pin is better than none as a deterrent.

One alternative which might work is a cable lock - there seem to be some cheap one's (£10-20) which might deter a bit. But, I am not sure how practicable that would be for where it is / how it is used?

e.g. but I have no idea if this is a good example

I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

This is going to be a rising problem for care homes and the relatives of people in care homes.

It's difficult enough trying to keep track of handbags, false teeth, jewellery and clothing - once most of the residents also have smart phones/tablets/laptops/etc it's going to be a nightmare.

If they're bed bound, surely the won't be leaving the room anyway?

There are lots of people in care homes who aren't bed bound and who will want to carry their stuff around the home.

There are also staff and visitors moving around the home who can't be watched all the time.

The OP says "pretty much" not totally (let's imagine they may be taken out of the room on occasion for many reasons) and and as per other reply - this is thread can be useful for more than the one person.
