Well away from the jet setting classes, ambassador-knowing classes and those who eat food others can't pronounce ....

I really really really really fancied some hot sausage rolls. I hot-footed it over the road to L1dl.... grabbed a pack of 6 and decided that "3 is a portion" and not 2. Also grabbed a tin of their tomatoes, for the store cupboard. Looked at the chips and they might've had some, but they didn't have the price notice out, so I couldn't be sure what I was buying/at what price, so I didn't buy them....

Then it was the long ..... wait. At least 12 people were in front of me in the queue - and they had three tills open.... I'd have left it except I really, really, really, really wanted hot sausage rolls by this point.

Tea is: 3 hot sausage rolls; already eaten two :)

    Good afternoon everyone,

I'm playing catch up on the thread as I've hardly been on-line the past few days, Today apart from giving the floors a much needed mop I've been mainly horizontal. I think the combination of guests, an ear infection and antibiotics just wiped me out.

I need to have a good rake in the fridge tonight and see what needs using up or frozen and plan what I'm having for dinner around that. So definitely back in good old CFO use up mode. There is also a chicken carcass waiting to be made in to stock so I'll pop it in the SC overnight. Brunch was a tasty tattie scone with fried eggs & tomato - it fair hit the spot with a wee splash of HP:D

Re cookbooks - I have [STRIKE]far too many[/STRIKE] rather a large collection and they span 30+ years:). They range from charity shop finds, ones I've bought and many as gifts. I love to read a cookbook on a wet day and plan what I might make. :DI did have more but many have been borrowed by my offspring/sister. Apart from baking I seldom follow recipes but do love them for inspiration. I like Nigel Slater from a CFO perspective as a lot of his recipes are for one or two:D
  • Yuk to raw fish I must admit - even if I werent virtually vegetarian. All the more so having read a few tales recently of people picking up a parasite or two from eating them:eek:.

Not for me - my tastes may be/are adventurous but nothing that falls within the "yuk" category....:rotfl:

.... three sausage rolls isn't enough. The remaining three are calling my name.... not sure how long I can hold out.

EDIT: Finally snapped...sausage rolls being cooked. 1200 calories for all six in the pack... but what the heck, eh!

Not much can beat a sausage roll shouting out at you, just give in and think of England - or as it's Lidl maybe think of Germany

Dinner was salad & the spuds. With a bought on impulse years ago in lidl Herring fillets in tom sauce. They were OK but once is enough

Had a problem with boiling the spuds. I used the bottom pan of my use on a gas hob steamer. Cooked them fine. Only problem is the blooming handle has just broken & crumbled off with years of heat.

Things just not made to last these days, only had it since 1994:mad:
It was a free introduction "gift" from Great Universal catalogue. Any one remember them, before computers & internet, pick stuff, post off, send cheque to pay off once a month?

I have normal saucepan I can use as steamer base for a while, until I source a replacement. I do not want an electric one, just a bung on hob one and then dishwasher it

Picked some gooseberries & red currants for pud, I will have them later blobbed with LO Greek yoghurt. Still stuffed with dinner at the moment:o

PS searching for steamer, seems Asda may be the one as it can be used on induction hob as well, if I think of it I will have a shufti tomorrow

  • :rotfl::rotfl:Swop you that saucepan Farway for what I hope is the last of the day's irritating little things that have been happening. This time - it's a pair of slippers from Marks & Spencers (should I say it a bit louder? MARKS & SPENCERS). The irritation being I'd bought them some months back to keep in for when my last slippers gave up the ghost. I've only been wearing them for 1-2 weeks (yep...weeks!) and the sole has darn nearly detached from one of them and they've had it.

I figure I've got no way of proving they're literally only days old as regards actually wearing them and getting a refund:(.

I won't be buying slippers from Marks & Spencers ever again then.....

Must have some more food I guess...time for another smoothie to use up the last of that silken tofu. Don't actually feel particularly hungry - but guess I'll have that at any rate.

MTSTM - have you tried "Welshman's Caviar"? Despite the name it's seaweed and very tasty. My son brought me some at Easter (he lives in Cardiff) and we had a sprinkle on salmon last night:D Re the slippers I'd email them. Slippers again but a few years ago I bought leather M&S slippers in the end of summer sale and put them away as a Christmas present for my Dad. After a few wears the stitching split. I got a full refund with no quibble. If you can take them to a store they should be able to tell from the sole/inside that they have hardly been worn.

I'm not overly keen on raw fish though can manage a wee bit as long as it isn't tuna. I do love cured fish though especially salmon and mackeral :)

I love fish, just not raw.

I've just found some rhubarb and orange cake lurking at the back of a freezer draw. I'd forgotten that it was there. I had a moment of initial excitement before I remembered that I don't like it much :(, which is no doubt the reason that I forgot it was there.

I've got it out to defrost and intend to donate it to two elderly neighbours tomorrow, who are always keen to take any cake off my hands that I don't want.

I have been trying to decide whether or not this week's menu needs tweaking in view of the weather getting hotter over the next few days, and have come to the decision to buy some salad bits tomorrow. Although I've only just finished off the last lot of salad, I know that if I don't get some and it's warm I will crave salads.

At least I haven't got much veg left.

I try not to look at the calories on the packet if it something I'm craving. I'm always afraid it will spoil the enjoyment for me, and sometimes you have just got to go with what you fancy, regardless of the calorie count :)

I hope that you have enjoyed them :)
