I waited in the whole day for an amazon preium package that has not arrived. Grhhh, I really wanted to go in the fresh air but didn`t. I ended the day prowling, from fridge to freezer to cupboard, anywhere I might have hidden biscuits or cake. Not any not anywhere, I had a bowl of crispy cereal, 2 boiled sweets and a bottle of fizzy kombucha. Should have had the drink first as it made me feel pleasantly full. Drat, I scoffed a whole punnet of strawberries too. If I had biscuits in, the whole packet would have been eaten. Good job I am not around the corner from a supermarket, even a flat and safe car ride would have been enough, the journey from here is hilly, narrow and twisty and isn`t worth the risk/reward just for mouth hunger. Oh now I have remembered juicy dates but its ok, I don`t need them any more

I am going to have a full hm ready meal tomorrow, with salad and I am going to get busy, oh yes amazon say it should be with me soon from tomorrow to the 16th. How many days is that? next day my eye!! I got a month premium free after I complained

Good to see that you got your month free. I also have Amazon Prime, and every time there is a mistake with an Amazon Prime order I politely point it out. I don't order enormous amounts of stuff from Amazon, but I do order fairly regularly.
I first took out Amazon Prime in June 2015. I got two free months the first year, which meant I renewed in August 2016. There was a flurry of mistakes between last August and November, with the net result that my next renewal will be in January 2018. It's always worth mentioning any flaws in a Prime delivery.

Hint dropping, fail for me. My neighbour, since moved, had pear & apple tree dripping with fruit and telling me there was too much & she could not use them. Cue my puppy eyes and begging thoughts heading her way, FAIL, never did get any. Luckily the new neighbours just do not pick them, so I scrump those I can reach over the wall

Good idea, bit older than in 60s but I stopped economising some time back, OK if you can afford not to and splash out on good stuff now & then, but still watch out for those YS must haves

I have learnt by now that one way to deal with a situation where someone has loads of something and they dont seem to want it (eg all that fruit on the trees) is to downright ask but in a jokey/cheeky sort of way. So maybe I'd say something like "Your trees DO have a lot of fruit on them. If you're chucking any out/not using it all - could I have some please?" (with a smile and suitable cheeky grin). That sort of approach often works I find.

The type of food I eat never has any YS reductions available I find. I will make economies that don't "hurt" and just count as sensible use of resources. Thus - I keep scrap paper for making notes/wash out and re-use freezer bags/that sort of thing. I refuse to spend what I regard as a normal price on clothes at present - ie until I'm back to normal figure (as I'd just be wasting my money on clothes that are due to be too big for me). So it's, say, £5 for a secondhand dress - whereas I'd be prepared to spend around £100 for one if I were correct size. £25 for a coat for current size - when I'd be prepared to spend £200-£300.

But I've decided that economising on food (and social life) has now stopped for good.

    True.

I'd rather not say a word - other than "Thank you" - and then surprise them later with something I'd made from the fruit.

Nice surprises are one thing. Broken promises are quite another.

its been an ok day wrt food but nothing exciting, maybe because I was so busy for much of the day, anyway my arms are aching still, been moving very heavy stuff in the garden. Went to the farmers place and bought compost but had a browse around their food, lovely stuff there as I am in a food growers county. Strawberries were reduced and devine. The jon thorners pies and quiches were massively tempting but I kept on walking

I`m going to have to do salad tomorrow as I didn`t have it today and sod the hm sd bread tomorrow, I need bread so will make hm spelt in the panasonic, think I will also make sultana scones. I am not that interested in cooking fab food these days, not just for me as there is always a lot to do, however plain and simple is really quite nice. Oh yes, there is that pasta sauce and thats nice, can make that tomorrow too, will keep days

GnT was lovely earlier, had one after I woke up from my accidental long doze in the chair, serves me right for laying it flatter, I`ll have to stay up longer tonight

Sadly love some people just take, they know all the right things to say but just don't follow through, I used to fret and upset myself over things like this but have found as I get older its water off a ducks back, lifes to short to be bothered, or maybe I have just got emotionly lazy lol.

    Afternoon all

Sun's out, ready for a spot of gardening once it moves round the front a bit more, bit of a breeze. Got the 6 that become 7 toms potted on, next is tackle the daff leaves at the front

Meg72, shame you're not nearer, my daughter gave me loads of herb seeds for my birthday, needless to say all germinated, now I have zillions of herbs I do not use or know how / where to, like parsley, dill, coriander. I expect they will fit somewhere eventually

Early up this morning, no idea why, perhaps heavy rain woke me although it was not raining when I got up, and so actaully fancied some breakfast

Had two stale crusts to use, and scrambled eggs on toast fitted nicely in there

Lunch was the other part baked baguette, with cheese, tom & sald bit. It all fell aprat of course because I tried to stuff too much in it. Good job it was on large plate, turned into finger food

Dinner will be half the YS 3 cheese deep pan pizza from yesterday, with side salad, no spuds though or it will be too many carbs for the day for me

The other half of the pizza will be tomorrow, could be lunch / dinner or maybe even breakfast if I follow some of your CFO ideas and fancy a breakfast that is ;)

Ohhhhh yesi its a shame we are not nearer, not because I want to snaffle your excess herbs, though I would have liked a few. but because theres a lovely group of people here who do a food and plant swop which would help with your budget though you do seem to be an experienced YS hunter lol. Check out Food is free in Shropshire on facebook, its a group that comes under the umbrella
of Shropshire Loves Humanitarian and displaced persons and sends aid to anywhere that needs it as well as at home. Maybe there is a similar group near you that will swop plants for food, if not and you have the time why not start one.

It turned out (google is your friend) to be a meths burning food warmer.

Is it like a fondue burner or a larger chafing dish?

We sometimes have a winter picnic by the sea and take a small camping stove that is in its own case. It runs on cans of gas and is really reliable and economical. Quite light too. We boil in the bag or make noodles and drinks. It's really cosy just sitting there with it on.

    Stove linky

We've also got a geriatric fondue set from the 70s - a garish Le Creuset one... it's amazing the heat that those little fondue burners can create. You can get pre-stuffed cartridges to go in them so you don't have to faff around filling them up.

You've got me thinking that I might drag it out of the cupboard and have a bit of a dipping session tomorrow.

    Amazon Prime.

I love choosing the option to have a regular no-rush delivery instead of the next day one - they then put a £1 credit on your account which can be used against digital purchases like music, books or films.

I've 'made' £23 so far from selecting the 'no rush' option.... that buys a lot of Kindle books :D.

That chafing thing (never heard of it before) was mentioned in threads when I tried to find out more about what I'd got.

But my thing seems a little unknown in the main - somebody has one, there's a picture online where somebody was asking where to get another from ... I'll find that. It's a bit like the sort of thing you might have seen in an indian restaurant 20 years ago.

Here's two photos somebody took of them cooking bacon on theirs:
    http://i46.tinypic.com/2nsp6ja.jpg
    http://i47.tinypic.com/30t5ldw.jpg

    .... camping stove .... cans of gas .... pre-stuffed cartridges ....
Another of my fears is pressurised canisters... and whether they're leaking, or if they'll randomly explode if I try to use one.

I've got a small can of lighter fluid (yellow), "inherited" so it's probably close to 10 years old now. Not really comfortable having it indoors, but also can't leave it outdoors... when I use it to refill a lighter it HAS to be outside, away from the house and I don't allow myself to come back into the house for at least 10 minutes "in case I've got fumes on me".

Me and any gases or canisters or pressurised items are a big no no in the main.

I imagine a lot of things will self-combust..... many things scare me that shouldn't.
