Good afternoon everyone,
I have had a bit of a "foodie" day - visited the new local food fayre bought a live crab and some lovely prawn tails as well as smoked salmon, smoked sausages, smoked stilton, smoked cheddar, a vibrant bunch of rainbow beetroot, 1/2 dozen large duck eggs and some lush peanut brittle. My sister made lunch of wild mushroom soup and posh sandwiches:D.
Mr Crab has been dispatched and is now boiling away and I'll portion and freeze the prawns later. No idea if I'm CFO tonight as my son's going out plans are bit awry and either way no idea what to have....;). I know though that lunch tomorrow will be crab with a hunk of well buttered baguette and some mayo0 -
Beautiful photo, I've been optomistic and planted out the pansies and taken the cover of my garden set0 -
I'm so jealous caron..I love crab but can't remember the last time I had any...I also love smoked salmon and prawns, neither of which I've had for ages.
No idea what's CFO tonight, it'll be a freezer raid when I feel hungry later.
I had a smoothie earlier: apple, pear, spinach and 100mls of unsweetened almond milk so a few of my 5 (or is it 10?) a day there...very tasty it was too.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -

A luxury I can't really indulge in too much but since I'm seldom out it came from my "entertainment" budget, needless to say every last morsel will savoured and I'll use the crab shell to make stock so good value. Mr Crab was only £1.50 it was everything else that was expensive....

Hi everyone,
I have been reading the comments about the recycling from you all with interest. My local council is really in to recycling and from later in the year our rubbish collections are changing so that we get weekly collections for food (cooked and uncooked) in a special container, paper/cardboard one week and plastics the next, and then the black sack rubbish will be every two weeks. This is a total change and I'm sure that I am going to get into a right muddle over it. Like many of you I'm not sure over the plastics. At the moment to be honest I put everything into a black sack for the weekly collection because it would take me so long to collect enough paper/plastics to make it worth putting out, and I do try not to waste food.0 -
I've not been feeling that hungry today, so just had scrambled eggs on their own for breakfast and a slice of toast for lunch. I must have moved the dial on the control when I cleaned the toaster yesterday because it had got turned right up, and I burnt the first slice beyond recognition. Despite opening the windows and doors for a while I can still smell burnt toast, and that is even with a scented candle burning in the kitchen all afternoon.
I will need to do a freezer dive shortly to find something for dinner. I don't have a fancy for anything in particular at the moment, so am thinking that I may look for something like a burger or sausages that I can just have in a roll. I have got a bag of salad in the fridge that I got ys that needs using up and some cucumber and tomatoes so I could have a bit of salad with it.
I hope you all have a good evening.0 -

.
I did have smoked salmon at New Year at my brother's house. It was a real pleasant surprise because my sister in law did a buffet tea for us to pick at throughout the evening, and it never usually includes things like smoked salmon, but my niece had bought it because she had had some at her staff Christmas party and really liked it.0 -

Everyone should try and treat themselves once in a while.

Mr Crab has been dealt with so there is a nice tub in the fridge for tomorrow and his shell is in the freezer for stock. The prawn tails have been washed and graded and I've 5 portions in the freezer, 3 of largish prawns, 1 of middling sized and a bag of wee ones, there was well over a kilo of them and well priced at £7.50, yes mixed sizes but beautifully fresh landed yesterday, prepped and at the fish market last night and now stashed in my freezer:D.
I've managed to over do it a bit so the rest of my goodies I'll portion tomorrow. The kitchen is a complete car crash but I'm for a sit down with a glass of wine for a bit before tackling it.;)
I am CFO tonight as son is going out so has just had pizza....
Recycling is big in my area we have a food caddy collected weekly, a recycling bin that takes most anything bar polysterene and batteries collected fortnight, a general waste bin colleted fortnightly and a garden waste bin collected monthly, because I seldo fill my bins I need always need to check what is going out when. When they first started it a few years ago glass needed to go in a separate bin (known locally as "the black box of shame as it was open topped so everyone good see your empty bottles). Several of these are now in my garden as the base for raised veg buckets so put to good use and I've also successfully grown leeks in them .......:D

If it's anything like my council then the only plastics you can recycle are "hard" plastics, ie milk containers, margarine tubs that sort of thing. Soft plastics like freezer bags, carrier bags etc are non-recyclable.
HTH.
