    Morning onskis

PN the best advice you ever gave me is the green bags. :T:T I can raise you on your 10th feb though...I had a bag of new potatoes which I bought for on the 21st Dec for Christmas and kept in the garage for a while then after coming on here and learning about the magical green bags put them in and yes they are still going strong no sign of deterioration at all :)

welcome catwhisker :T lovely to have another like minded single. great advice is plenty on here but its the sort you will actually use not the type you roll your eyes to heaven at like "why not batch cook for a week and freeze ":D We are fairly rare sorts with no wonderful darling husband or kids in the background to hoover up the remains which brings its own challenges but we have a good group going now and I know I can rely on the guys here if I need something different to do with mince :rotfl:

caronc hope you are feeling better today sounds like you have been through the wars this weekend :(

so I am working away tonight and tomorrow so will actually be able to look a menu and chose what I fancy not what is practical and even better I wont have to eat it again tomorrow :rotfl:

Have a great day everyone :)

I'm generally one who never believes any "hype" written by people about such things. Indeed, I only bought the bags I have as I was wandering round the 99p shop and saw them - and I've no idea why I thought to buy them, I'm not proactive in trying things out... especially when I don't really "believe all that nonsense".

They sat in my cupboard for well over a year before I (disbelievingly) opened the box and got them out .... I expected them to be an utter waste of time/effort/money and I expected to rue the day I bothered to believe the hype.

I was staggered when they actually worked!

    :)

    Afternoon folks

Today is pie day, again, using the last of my Morries big £2 pies on offer, steak with shortcrust top it says. Should do for 2 days or maybe abit more. I will have that with steamed fresh veg which is getting near it's "must use" stage now but shoudl be OK for a few more meals

I use frozen veg sometimes, freezer is big enough for the kilo size bags, normally just cauli, green beans & peas, the other types are not for me, I have tried but always find some fault and no longer bother when I am luicky enough to have fresh around, and I am not too choosy as long as it is in season, or cheap, it will do, except spinach, never liked that

Lunch was fish fingers, mayo & tom sarnie, !!!!!! prompted by seeing same on here the other day

This morning was Waitrose mooch morning, having zoomed round Asda and not seen anything I fancied. Waitrose have offer of ready meals for one, well not a complete meal, but large enough for one, like veg lasagne, chicken penne. Normal is around 2.65, on offer 3 for £6.

I have threeall different & long dated after a bit of rummage at back of the shelf, chilled so that is me sorted until Friday I think, pie x 2 and 3 days of nuking a RM

I tend to have a foot in both camps as when I try a new recipe or make things like lasagne or cottage pie I do freeze several portions and freeze them for dds or son in law . I usually have some of them over once or twice a week and cook for them as well but the rest of the time it is just me and I have to force myself to try to make something sensible and not just have something on toast etc.

Trying to forget the frozen pizza I had a fancy for last night :o
This morning has been toast for breakfast, a bacon sandwich for lunch and eating fruit before it goes off. A portion of mash is in the fridge so will have that tonight with a lamb steak and peas.

There are peppers which are looking desperate to be eaten so will make up a peppers and onion dish of some kind tomorrow, maybe a fritatta.

Evening everyone, thanks for the good wishes :A and welcome to new posters:)

Thankfully sort of back on my feet today as had a bunch of hospital appointments, consequently lunch was rather insipid egg sandwich from the canteen which at best filled a space:(

Mash is one of the things I tend to make a big batch of and freeze portions as I love proper mash but can't be faffed making it that often. Frozen veg of various types I do tend to have as well but never again will I buy a big bag of value mixed veg - I think the darn stuff breeds when the freezer door is closed though just a couple of portions left now:D

Tonight I'm going to have some of the cooked brisket I took out of the freezer but didn't manage yesterday with root veg mash from the freezer, cabbage and gravy as I feel in need of something hearty after a "ping" lasagne last night and just a sandwich so far today.:)

Didn't know it was national pie week so must make sure a pie features somewhere this week - I've a scotch pie in the freezer so it with beans will do the trick:D

I'm one of those people that can't touch raw meat - and hate the thought of whole "animals" with skin and bone and other stuff ... stuff I'd rather not even think about.

I'm a fan of turkey crowns at Xmas - but last Xmas I got a turkey breast. I'd noticed last year that you can get chicken crowns and so they were on my radar of knowledge ...when I spotted them in Aldi earlier this week. £2.49 in the freezers.

Now ... I don't care if a whole chicken in £1 .... I'm NOT going to ever buy one and deal with a carcass, parsons nose, the flappy bit of skin near it's 4rse, all the skin ... and all the remnants/bones.

I think at £2.49, lobbed into the slow cooker for, say, 4 hours .... the chicken crown might turn out to be an interesting option in the coming months.

Haven't bought one, but they're now on the food radar.... which means they have a high potential of being bought. I have to do a LOT of "thinking" about new foods before I take the commitment.

As for Pie Week, I'm not one for following these sorts of things really - it's too much "marketing spin" for me. I'll probably go through the week pieless, just because that's the way it rolls.... I eat what I eat and can't change what I have/eat because some organisation decides to boost its sales by choosing an arbitrary date :)

Today's been an odd one ... never quite worked out what to eat/couldn't be bothered + I had a lot of "easy options" from yesterday's food buys.

    1st: 2 crumpets + marmalade
2nd: The last scraps of some ready rolled pastry with some random bits of cheese/onion put on it then folded over and squashed and then baked... well, half baked... it was "nearly done" when I got bored of waiting for it and scoffed it all half cooked.
    3rd: 2 crumpets + marmalade
    4th: 2 scones + marmalade.

So far today a rather uninspiring choc mousse type thing with fake cream on the top (think it was about 25p), the last 2 cream crackers with butter....I'm about to put a pizza in the oven with extra pepper, mushrooms, chilli and a generous splash of olive oil :)

0/10 so far but maybe 2/10 once I've eaten my pizza?

Just to add I am rather perturbed by my recent weight gain :(

I can no longer fit in many of my clothes and I certainly can't afford to buy new clothes so this CFO is going to have to stop and I need to revert back to beans on toast or more likely, just toast...I really can't afford to get any fatter :(

Sad but true because I like my food and have rather enjoyed experimenting with more exciting stuff than just toast...seemingly my body doesn't agree :o

    I'll !!!!!! now..sorry to witter on :A
