I went over to instant mash a bit back, and make it much as PN does, by eye, blob of this, splash of that. I have sunk as low as Smart Price, and know what? Tastes same as the stuff those Martians make, especially with brown sauce and a shrunken slurry filled FB pie
Proper single food, eh

Good idea, but since formula changed [new manufacturer] I find it literally makes me puke, and I am not the only one so not just me and now loath to try it ever againEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

When was that?
I'd never bothered with it before until I spotted it was half price nearly a year ago, so seized the day and bought two 500 gram bags... I'm now down to the final 1/2 bag.
Am I on the new or old formula?
As I had no previous taste by which to compare it, I couldn't like it more/less....
I just like the way it's tasteless and you add the flavours to it - and it looks like meat and it's got a colour and it's a bit like the meaty bits in pot noodles.... I'm not very discerning to be honest. I've only used it to make a couple of 1-serving shepherd's pies and some chilli non carne
Hot: Yes

Tasty Enough: Yes

My word Farway and PN, you two are a loss to the gourmet world. You really should get together and open a high class eatery. Cheap instant mash, sloppy FB pie and brown sauce. Classy stuff. I imagine the pretentious cheffy types will be rushing off to market with their little handwoven baskets in their hot little hands as we speak.

It was a 1 litre carton, so difficult to drink all of that once opened.... because they're very high calorie, so I begrudge "wasting" calories on drinks when they are more usefully spent eating pies.

PN you make me giggle and of course you are a fellow pie lover
Thanks for the bag recommendations I managed to get some from flea bay for 2.39 so I figure that will be worth it for all the veg I will save :T
Still not settled on tonights menu but i am edging towards a jacket potato with cheese and beans0 -

I bet if somebody opened an FB pie eatery the hipsters of London would flock there for lunch ... after they'd scoffed the bowls of cereal at the cereal shop for breakfast.
There be rich nutters in London, keen to look hip and cool ... I'd give them a run for their money
I saw a Pizza FB pie once... tempted, I picked up the tin, flipped it over, 1200 calories. I returned it to the shelf and have 'pined' a little for it ever since0 -

I expect if we called the brown sauce "Jus" they would be shovelling money in our tills, even with the 20% service charge addedEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
So, PN what are we waiting for?, If there be rich nutters in Lunnon Town ripe for the pickin', lets go and get 'em.
You can do the mashed spuds with FB, pie. I'll weigh in with something corned beefy followed by semolina with a dab of watery rasp. jam.
Will you alert the Good Food magazine or shall I?
Bagsy the "HP jus" for the corned beef.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I have said it before I honestly believe for one it is cheaper to buy ready meals as there are always offers on.
I agree it can be cheaper, esp when you add in the power of the freezer. but healthwise I don't think you'll be doing yourself any favours.
my thinking is that if you rotate your freezer 'ready meals' you wont end up with the same thing every day. I cook my dad's 'ready meals' and shuffle them into his freezer, if he says hes running out of curry ill cook one and alternate them in. eg after summer and I had loads of tomatoes to use up he had lots of bol bakes, so I cooked liver & onions and curry for him, shuffled them in and he had a variety.

One of the most magnificent tastes I've knocked up in a plastic bowl in 3 minutes was some mash and corned beef, mashed together and heated up. Nom nom.
It takes 3 minutes to do that.... if you then take a dish and oil it, then put that lot in the dish and top it with breadcrumbs and cheese and put it under the grill ... it takes a total of 15 minutes and you've created more washing up ... so, "stop ASAP" is what I say - eat it from the plastic bowl with a spoon.
I LOVED semolina at school. Used to make it from powder about 40 years ago at home. About 20 years ago I'd often have a crafty sachet/pouch of Instant Semolina, made with boiling water in a jug.... I looked for that the other week but couldn't spot any.0
