Camcorder from jessops...anyone bought from there?

i am thinking of buying one from jessops as you can get one on 0% interest for 12 months and then pay up. has anyone done this? what do they require documents ? did you find the cameras worth the money? thanks in advance.

  • With any credit deal it is worth taking the time to read the agreement.

In relation to the shop I bought our camcorder from them years ago and I found them to be very goos customer service wise.

    You should have no problems.

Do a search online using a tool such as Google's Froogle www.froogle.co.uk (now called Google Products) or my personal favourite for camera equipment www.camerapricebuster.co.uk

Then compare prices for the camcorder you are interested in, it's likely you'll get it much cheaper price from an on-line shop, but without the zero percent deal.
  • I find Jessops extremely expensive, almost extortionate! You will probably find a better deal online and save yourself a significant amount of money. I recently purchased a sony camcorder and got it about £140 cheaper at pixmania and thats including postage. Exactly the same model!
  • hi there-i would avoid if i were you-If you payup within the 12 months and as such ecrue no intrest clydesdale (the money company that the agreement is with) add on £30 for the privaledge for you avoiding the interest. If you go and pay nothing for the 12 months then you will ecrue all the interest as from the first day 12 months ago when you took out the agreement originally-Also if you pay off most of the debt in the 12 months and just leave a little to pay after the 12 months to avoid the early payment charge of £30,then you ecrue all the interest for the whole amount added on to what ever amount you have left.I hope this makes sense!

hi there-may i just point out that pixmania are a French based company, and while they indeed offer great deals,if there were any problems/faults with the item it would have to go back to a repair agent in france, not the UK,in fact depanding on the item, even if it has a worldwide warrenty, some companys (sigma plus others) demand to see full customs dutys paid forms before they will repair. You may want to add this in when you are reviewing the prices, and if checking online, double check where the company itself is based.
  • Can I just agree with Uberj.
I bought a camera from Pixmania and had no idea that they were a French company. Manual, software, everything - is all French. Even the charger is French but with a uk power adapter.

They're also extremely cheeky. They hike on a load of extra stuff when you click "Checkout", that you have to remove. There was also some confusion over the postage, but I can't remember what it was now. Possibly late, or some mix up with giving me the wrong tracking number or something.

I'm just hoping it doesn't develop a fault because I can see returns on that being awkward.

While Jessops are undoubtedly expensive on some items - people I know that have shopped there have all told me the staff know their stuff and go out of their way to help you. That's no excuse for a camera costing £140 more but its worth mentioning.

    I'm happy with Jessop's service.
If you can, try going into the shop with cash and ask for a discount.I've done it in other shops and it often works.
