Hi
I'm not too hot when it comes to computers so please forgive my ignorance. I am a BT Yahoo customer on BT Broadband option 1 that includes a basic security package. In addition I also run Norton 2007 and the 12 month subscription has just expired. I've read about AVG and am interested in using a free security package (who wouldn't be?) but am not sure how I go about installing it. So my questions are:
1) Do I have to remove Norton first?
2) Do I need anything at all if Bt Yahoo provide a basic package?
I'd be grateful for any help because my computer seems to get slower every day even though there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it (per norton).
Also when I run a weekly scan the number of files scanned each week just goes up and up. Can anyone tell me why this is and what I can do about it?
Thanks
Ian

download AVG
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff
and Comodo Firewall
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
then go offline and remove Nortons from Add/remove programs, if you have problems then this tool will remove it all
http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html
while offline, and after the uninstall of Nortons, install Comodo firewall and then go back online and install AVG and let it update
the file number goes up all the time as you are continually downloading and creating files, a bit of tidying up by deleting old rubbish will help
download www.ccleaner.com and run it, it will delete all your temp files and other uneeded rubbish
it's very important to have a working firewall and antivirus on ANY internet connectionEx forum ambassador
