Can I claim when I have defaulted on my account?

Hi there everyone
I had several credit cards over several years, swapping to no fee accounts after the previous no fee expired.
I paid these cards on time over the years but I hit hard times and had to default on the accounts.
I had gone through a debt management agency to continue paying off several accounts but again I have been unable to make any further payments.
So, what I'm asking is am I still able to claim my PPI even though i have a CCJ onone account and debt collectors are on the other account?
Even though I owe money I am wondering if I'm able to claim on the money I paid out over the years.
Thank you in advance for any help that may be offered.
Kind regards
Andrea

You can certainly complain that the PPI was mis-sold but, even if you are successful, any monies refunded would go towards your unpaid debt. You'd be unlikely to receive anything personally.
A rather futile exercise, unless your refund would clear your defaulted debt of course.0 -
I know of at least one bank that would pay you regardless of what you owe them.
So unless they have changed their procedures (which is highly unlikely) you might well be lucky.
However I am not going to name the bank. Sorry.0 -
Some PPI complaints have indeed been successful where the complainants have defaulted, but this is usually the result of poor record keeping rather than an actual policy of paying regardless.0

Lot depends on whether they can reclaim a debt, the bank might be one who sell on debts with no option to recall so have no right to the PPI, any bank that can get debts back from a debt agency can (unless they choose not to for some reason)Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
