TV in Kitchen - What are my options?

Hi - we will shortly move into our new house which has Freesat TV points in all three bedrooms and the lounge, using up all four of the satellite's connection points. It has a large kitchen diner, in which I will spend most of the time, but I would like to have a TV in there. I don't want to re-route one of the existing TV points but I cannot use the satellite dish to add this fifth point in the kitchen - or maybe I can - I don't know, really not my area of expertise but I would like to know what my options are to have a TV in the kitchen, which will enable me to watch at least terrestrial TV. We won't be subscribing to Sky or Virgin.

Thanks

Just add a roof aerial and watch via Freeview.

You may even have adequate reception with a portable aerial which will require no installation at all.

Certainly no Freesat requirement because it's a broadly similar lineup of channels on Freeview.

Hi - thank you for your response.

I was hoping it may be something a bit easier like having a Smart TV with Now TV or something like that. A roof aerial seems a bit excessive for a little telly in the kitchen.

But there again I have no clue about all this. Incidentally I found a small B&W portable tv in my loft while getting everything down ready for the move. Those were the days lol - plug it in and off you go! Conveniently forgetting having to move the portable aerial constantly to try and lose the snowstorm!

Go for a FireTVStick if it has a HDMI input, and you have half-decent wifi. Load TVPlayer on it, and Bob's your uncle. £35 today from Amazon, but they can be bought cheaper

With a Smart TV you'd still need an internet connection for Now TV and aerial for most of the Freeview channels...

As I said, portable aerial may be possible, but optimum reception will come through an outside aerial.

Whatever you get, reception will be wired somehow...

From the outset I've told you to simply get a portable or (preferably) roof aerial. Still the simplest and cheapest way of watching live TV.

If the property doesn't have a terrestrial aerial (because it's been installed with Freesat) then putting in a new one may not be cheap.

If you have decent Wifi, I would agree with others that some kind of streaming option would probably be cheapest/easiest.

Now TV is c. £15 for the box at the moment (though there are usually offers for reduced cost box & subs bundles for pay TV). That provides access to BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 catch-up without further payment. I assume there are also live BBC channels via iPlayer, and there are definitely live ITV channels via ITV hub. If you subscribe to a Pay TV package, you also get those live channels, too (which are Sky channels).

There's also Chromecast and Amazon solutions, as well as more "techy" brands like Roku. If you have Apple products, maybe look at Apple TV.

Alternatively, if you are going to need a new TV anyway, you could get a small Smart TV, like this: https://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/24mt48s/lg-24mt48s

You might need to investigate which players it comes with, as they vary.

Appreciate what you're saying but from my experience, buying an aerial and having it installed is far more expensive than buying an Amazon Firestick. We did have a new aerial put up on our current property and it cost £150.
