HSBC Credit Card

I recently applied for an HSBC Debt Shift Credit Card because MSE Credit Club gave me an 80% chance of being accepted.
HSBC called today to discuss the application but I couldn't talk so she said she would send me some correspondence. She wouldn't let me know over the phone without having the entire conversation whether I'd been accepted or not.
My question is has anyone received this kind of call from HSBC and surely if they were going to decline my application, wouldn't they just send me a letter?
TIA

It's a referral. The letter will probably request ID or some additional info.0

i haven't, but i would expect it to be positive: just more information required.0

I applied for their balance transfer card and it took about a month to get sorted. They eventually sent me a letter to take proof of income and bank statements into branch, then they sent forms to sign, then they finally sent the card.
Actually a breath of fresh air to see a bank underwriting their credit properly and not just rejecting outright. (my credit history is less than stellar, but I have lots of disposal income now due to huge increase in income).Total Value of wins in 2009: £900 appox. 2010: £730Wins 2011: Carlisle Utd Tickets (twice!), Baby Food Hamper, Straighteners, Chugginton Toy0 -
I wouldn't worry. HSBC credit card has to be one of the most archaic I have ever used.
You can't pay it online, you have to pay it via your bank account. They setup a direct debit 3 times for me and it's been wrong each time so not been taken.
It was missed one month and it's been in complaint since 5th Dec. No call or letter since then.
I did get the card and the balance transfer offer so there is that but it's like dealing with a credit card from 2001.
I'd say it was good news you are getting a call - probably want to check ID before sending you the forms.0 -
I tried to do a balance transfer with Tesco last week. They called me but they hung up just after I picked up the phone, and I received a letter on Saturday asking me to call them. I did, they just needed to double check my details (to make sure the application was genuine) and the guy approved it at the end of the call. I didn't need to send any proof of ID/wage slips etc. I hope this helps
