npower/scottish power erroroneus transfer

hi everyone, i am looking for some advice regarding my gas supply, i moved to my property 18 august last year ,my landord advised me of my gas/electricity supplier which was n-power, after receiving high gas bills i contacted npower, after checking my meter number against the one that npower were billing me for, the numbers dont match but npower assured me the m number wasnt essential, to cut a very long story short after this saga going on for a year i received a letter of demand from scottish power for £690 for gas charges it turns out they are my supplier ,i only paid in total to npower £96 for my gas as my account was on hold for ages until ofgem sorted things out for me, npower arent willing to compensate me for all the stress caused and scottish power are now sending debt collection letters to me, please could anyone advise

  • Leanne you say that Ofgem sorted it out for you? What was their resolution? Usually if a goverining body such as Ofgem/ Watchdog are involved then the matter will only be closed once completely resolved. You say you paid NPower £96....what dates did they bill you from? Do they match up too the dates that you lived in the property and were the reads actuals? Did you take actual reads when you moved into the property? Have you discussed payment options with Scottish Power? Also what does the erroneous transfer have to do with it? Were either of the suppliers supplying you in error? If so, which one? And are you back with the correct supplier now? Sorry about all the questions, but your original post does not explain the situation too well so it is difficult too work out the best advise for you.....

In terms of electricity & gas your meter number is essential. the reason being if they have an incorrect meter all the readings can be incorrect so your bill could be inaccurate. The fact they have told you that points to you speaking to someone inexperienced.

Surely Ofgem have resolved this for you by now?
