New current account with poor history

I currently have a Santander 123 account which I've had for a few years. I'm currently paying £5 a month as a fee and probably earning the same in cashback - not amazing but breaking even. I'm also a bit miffed that they won't give me a contactless card (I don't have an overdraft and never go overdrawn but they said I have to wait 3 months, twice).
Anyway, thinking of going elsewhere but I have a few late/missed payments over the past few months so am assuming that I may not get accepted anywhere for much more than a basic cash account? I've also been refused Aqua and Vanquis credit cards. Should I just stay put for now?

I would jump on Martins new credit club tool and check your history. There may be something on there that Vanquis/Aqua did not like that it causing issues. If you think your credit history is suspect then I would certainly make sure it is as clean as possible before switching accounts.

I would recommend you check your credit files.0

Downgrade to the 123 lite (which is £1) and ask for the debit card upgrade.
Can't you obtain a credit card with the contactless function?
Use Android / Apple pay?
Unless you use Transport for London, I'd say you aren't missing much tbh. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
