Energy Supplier wrote off a Bill, Debt Collector is pursuing
Hi,
A few years ago I was with npower. After I've switched away from them they sent me a bill for £1200 out of the blue 1 year ago.
I read more about this and found out that they screwed up big style over the last few years and were hoping to chase people for more money.
3 months ago a debt collection agency started calling me daily about npower. I've never confirmed to them who I am or aknlowedged the debt in anyway.
I wrote to npower asking them to reconsider the bill in light of the back billing code. They wrote back to me confirming in writing that they have written off the debt in line with this code.
Great? Not sure.
So I suspect that they still sold the "debt" to the debt collection agency for peanuts and these are hoping to get some money.
So I was planning to tell the debt collection agency to beat it.
Last week the debt collection agency wrote me a letter. I was alarmed how I found where I live.
I check my credit report and sure enough there is a "debt collection" search from this agency.
Obviously I am beyond livid. I think this search will show up to other lenders.
They have never proved the debt in anyway and I have never aknolwedged it.
At this point I want the debt collection agency to stop harassing me , and I want the debt collection search to be removed from the report.
I also want to spend some time to hurt the collection agency so they stop going around putting collection search markers on people on debt that is not owed.
Thoughts and guidance?

Hi joujou
Thanks for your post.
If we've written the debt off then the Debt Collection Agency shouldn't be pursuing for the balance, as this is no longer outstanding.
If you can please contact us using the details on our profile page, providing your account details, we'll contact the collections agency and make sure this is recalled. We can also remove any incorrectly applied markers on your credit file.
Kind regards
Jess
