O/S Daily Thursday 12 January 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still dark here, bitter wind but dry underfoot at the moment, we're forecast white stuff this afternoon.
Dinner last night was HM shepherds pie/individual chicken and mushroom pie, roasties, carrots, broccolli and gravy. I decided that as DH is not overly keen on shepherds pie, I'd cook the individual chicken pie for him to have instead. I rang him to say I'd cook the pie and all was well. When he get's home I was serving up the dinner, he get's his pie, roasties, veg and gravy, then asks if he can have some shepherds pie aswell as it looks really nice! Men! Afterwards he asked what had I made it with? I don't ever buy minced beef as it just gets wasted, I use quorn mince and that was what I used last night. This all stems from his mother buying cheap c**p meat and making them eat it in his childhood. Moving on, this has now presented me with a bit of a dilemma as tonight's menu was LO's from the freezer and a choice of 2 x lasagnas, 1 x chicken and mush pie (now eaten) and 1 x fish pie - there are now also 3 portions of shepherds pie left, I need to organise something for dinner, so that will be on the list for today preferably without spending any money - I do have well stocked freezer and store cupboard it's just a matter of coming up with something different.
Yesterday I was quite productive, I did go to next town early, and went into the big new store as that early was virtually empty and wasn't particularly impressed, moved on to huge MrS and tried to find a new pair of jeans but the only pair I could find in my size were still to long in the leg, was about to leave when I found another rail of jeans on their own amongst other clothes, found a pair in my size and took them to try them on, they were huge on me, so I got a size lower and tried them on, and they fit a treat, so used my points and only spent £6, but this is not out of my GC budget. I was very proud of myself for not spending for the sake of spending - which I would have done before! Once I got home I also decluttered 4 hot spot areas - just started in one, then decided I'd have 30 mins break then start again, and did this each time until all areas had been done, this seems to be working for me at the moment.
So today's plan -
I'll be heading into town to visit the building society and bank, I will also have a look in the butchers - I do need to stock up on fresh meat and this butcher's is very good and does large bulk buy packs that you pay a bit more for but the quality is excellent - if you break down the price per kg/per lb it's better value than most of the SM's. The only SM's I buy fresh meat in is Morries and Lidl's I have bought it elsewhere and had some bad experiences. I need to empty the freezers a bit before I can buy in bulk though.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
It was snowing when I got up but just a light dusting so far - hope that's it!
The builder had been yesterday and put up the plate rack which now has suitable clutter on and iron store so that's nice and tidy. A couple of other jobs were sorted, just waiting for the 'blind man' to come tomorrow and it's all done.
The phones at work were fixed yesterday which doubles the work load, I am on a course this morning, we'll see if the useless one can cope, he doesn't usually start until 10.30 so doesn't see the mayhem of 9am.
Thinking of you Lainey and sending you much love. Meanmarie, are you still in Oz? Hope you're having a good time.
Have a good day, stay safe and warm. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Off to work in a sec, chilly here but no snow yet, it should arrive this afternoon.
I will have a word with my line manager this morning just to reiterate my 'snow' position.
If the buses are cancelled I won't be in, I'm working on the theory that if the buses can't negotiate the hills safely neither can I.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting. All calm outside this morning - the wind has dropped and no snow - YET!
The DGDs are still fast asleep but will be to waken just gone 7.15. Only two of them this morning but all three are here tonight after swimming/diving clubs for late tea, sleepover and school run tomorrow. I left some mince defrosting overnight to make the customary big Bolognese Bake for when they descend "starving"! There is an uproar if I dare to make anything different on Thursdays!
Much sympathy for those with difficult OH's. I guess I am one of the lucky ones as Mr TA has always been amiable and we rub along quite well together. We'll have been married 45 years this time so we must have been doing something right! The anniversary card he gave me last year was addressed to "My wife and Best Friend" and I couldn't have wished for a nicer comment. (Of course there have been a few arguments along the way but these are soon forgiven and forgotten!)
Today will be a pottering sort of day with a few jobs in need of doing. Maybe this afternoon I will get round to some decluttering if the jobs get done this morning! I have no rush in me these days but I am blaming the weather!
NRA life sounds pretty tough for you these days. I hope something can be sorted out with your MIL's care. LAINEY as always you are in my thoughts. ((HUGS)) to everyone else who is under the weather, sad or anxious. Take care whatever you are up to. Stay safe and warm xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

tiredmum Oooh Dolly is home, when did that happen?! I'm glad she's settling in. I love a good rehoming story

Mr tru's problem - I consider it his problem - is quite common then? I've decided to let him wallow in his own misery, for now at least. I have more important things to do than worry about, and pander to, someone who is behaving like a sulky narcissistic bratty teenager.
He was fine til three years ago then it started and he's gradually got worse. I've written a lot of things down as they happen, I began doing this because to start with I thought I was imagining it, lol.
I have four Christmas cushions, the covers are wearing thin and a couple of them have split – right across a snowman's face and Father Christmas's tummy
I've gone through my yarn stash and have started making new covers in green, red and white.
I opened my diary for the first time in days and groaned at how much I haven't done. I've started working my through the lists, I should be caught up by the end of the weekend. Hopefully
I have a pile of invoices and receipts to go through, I'll sort those then open a couple of spreadsheets and get stuck in.

Good morning everyone.
The wind calmed down overnight, thank goodness, and no sign of the snow yet though it is forecast. I'll be taking my woolly hat with me.
I've got the two hour teaching session first thing, I'm hoping the students get in as three live a long bus ride away and usually arrive an hour before the start.
There's still chilli to eat and my book to read this afternoon. Nothing much else to report!
Thoughts to Lainey especially.
Happy Thursday.0 -
Good morning all, a quick post as I need to get off to work.
Had a productive day (work) yesterday and hoping for the same today. Today is the end of my working week, hooray, I am becoming not less committed but less enthusiastic by the month.
And I have forgotten to iron my work trousers, bum.
Thinking of LaineyT as ever, and love to those who need support, J xxI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you nmlc for starting the thread.
Thinking of all the poorlies and those with sadness and trouble in their lives (((hugs))) and prayers.
I had a good night sleep, even when I wake up it is for very brief periods of time and then I drift off almost immediately, so I am grateful for that. This morning I woke up to silence and I thought it must have snowed, but when I looked out it was clear of snow, it hasn't even rained. I don't look forward to snow, here in London it becomes pap and then black ice, not good for walking out on the pavement, even less for driving.
I have sorted DH's breakfast already and will make mine in a minute, but just wanted to come here and catch up briefly before starting my day.
This morning I have the Final Declutter of my bedroom because my friendly cleaner comes in at 3pm. I will be away, going to a knitting group that starts at 2, so I need to leave the room perfectly empty (as far as possible) and instructions with DH.
Yesterday I went a step further towards simplifying our lives, made an appointment with our local ethical building society to transfer our current accounts there. We have 4 altogether, from the time we were getting a decent interest rate, but now it is a pittance compared to what it was. Even if it would make us a little more money to keep our savings in those accounts, both DH and I want to simplify our money and will only have the one joint account (which is already open so it is only a matter of transferring a bit of savings and all the DDs and STOs), tomorrow is the appointment day and I look forward to it as another step towards a simpler life.
Off I go, breakfast time then roll up sleeves and tacke bedroom. As I type here in the Room of Doom I think about when this room's turn comes and I get a bit hysterical inside. Never mind, a step at a time.
Have a good day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning everyone,
The snow!! Probably 1.5 inches outside my house and the closer I get to Glasgow the there is lying on the ground. Although it's still snowing as we speak.
I played football last night while there was lightning and side-ways snow. We had to stop early but I loved it. As a little boy I had always dreamed of playing professional football under the flood lights in the snow with an orange ball. 20 years later and it's 7-a-side with a group of distant friends.
Tonight is another date night with my gran. She's making gigot chops and they're always just so tender. Can't wait.
Have a nice day everyone.0 -
Morning chums
Lainey T thinking of you all
Dolly didn't do so well last night and in the end i took her upstairs with her pink bed and she slept in that all night in my room. I don't want to make the cage a battle she was crying and had an upset tummy when i let her out then was just really stressed. It isn't ideal but as long as she stays on her bed i am ok with that
No snow here in Essex yet but is expected later
Lots to do today little bits and a good hoover up
Have a great day whatever you are up to0 -
Morning everyone.
I'm writing this sitting on the sofa having my second cuppa of the day and with the cat by my side. Have done my online banking and need to decide what I'm going to do today.
Need to make a start on some cakes to take to a 100th birthday on Saturday plus we have friends visiting tomorrow so will make enough for them as well. Last night we had salmon, sweet potato and roasted veggies for dinner but I'm currently stuck on something for tonight. Will need to eat fairly early as I'm off down the M1 afterwards - do hope it doesn't snow!
Speak again tomorrow xx0
