a bios error being?
BIOS is the software that runs the physical computer... Sort of underneath Windows. When you first switch on a computer and you get the start screen before Windows.
So with this computer, before Windows even starts, this bare-bones screen pops up saying there are hardware problems.0 -
I know what a bios is.
The question was, what is the bios error you are talking about.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Ah I see. Had you used the correct article, or a full and unambiguous sentence, I wouldn't have bothered with a Ladybird-book definition of what BIOS is.
Suffice to say that if a brand-new out-of-the-box computer boots up into BIOS to give a hardware error message instead of launching Windows, then in my book it's defective, a.k.a. knackered, and I'd like it replacing with a new one that works, please.0 -
you could have posted the exact unambiguous error message in fewer words, nevermind
As it stands, you're just creating more hassle for yourselfDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

I've just looked at HP and for the same spec. I'd be talking 33% or £400 more, and that's before any extended warranty.
Such an ordeal, finding the right laptop, as I'm sure you found on your search!
I've pmailed you the details.
And yes - after a while all the offers seemed to blend into each other. I ended up making a list of price, cpu/gpu rankings, ram etc - so I could tell at a glance what the better deals were. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

You have to go back to the start. You got a DOA laptop, they agreed to replace it and you agreed. That's it deals done, they don't need to restart the warranty and emailing them 4 days later to request one is not going to change that.
Everything else in you thread is irrelevant, the bottom line is you got the replacement you wanted and they have done exactly what they needed to do.0 -

obviously, but you did ask for insights or suggestions.
If someone offered a solution to these mystery defects, would you rather fart about for months and spend hours arguing on the phone about a few weeks warranty that you'll probably never need, or use it.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0
