Is it worth taking out British Gas homecare plan for old boiler?

I have a boiler approximately 10 years old, which I suspect isn't very efficient and hasn't much life left, and I'm wondering if it'll be worthwhile to take out a British gas homecare plan. Are there any benefits having a plan be when the boiler finally requires conks out?

The boiler has a history of servicing from British gas for 7 years, with exception of the last two years.

Any insight and advice appreciated! Thanks :)

you won't get a replacement if it eventually fails as most only cover until they are about 7 years old.

Other option is to self finance and put away some money each month to save up for the time it gives up the ghost.

BG normally assess a system before takeover. If there is anything of concern they will indicate this and state it has to be fixed. You may find that there are exclusions due to what they could classify as pre-existing conditions. For example this could include the necessity of the system having a power flush, and this could be quite expensive. The best advice would be for you to read through their terms and conditions.

If your boiler has not been problematic to date then as suggested why not put notional money aside for an interim repair and/or future replacement.

    Two further options:

    1. Have a look at Domestic and General's sign up terms for boiler cover. I have used them in the past and had no issues when fault fixing or the annual service.

    2. Look for a local CH firm that offers cover, I use a FM firm in Gloucester and they have been first rate. The premium is £165 per year (and it hasn't increased in 8 years). Before signing me up, my CH system was looked at very carefully and serviced by them. The deal being that if they declined to offer me cover, I would only pay for the service at an agreed price. They turned out 3 years ago on Boxing Day to deal with a leak from the CH pump, and returned 3 days later to do a full repair. My boiler is now 16 years old.

By far the best solution - and find a friendly local plumber who will service your existing boiler and fit a new one when the time comes far more cheaply than British Gas.

The British Gas homecare agreement also covers other parts of your central heating system, not just the boiler. Also includes an annual service. Plus you will usually get an engineer out the same day.

Maybe it is just me, but I have had v. good experiences with BG, and very poor ones with an independent rip-off gas engineer.

But, I would never buy a boiler from BG, they will charge way over the top

BG have a reputation for condemning boilers that others would repair, in the hope of selling you a new one.

10 years,,old..? But mine is circa 35 years old .
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
