PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Have you tried creating alerts on Rightmove and PrimeLocation?
They should send you emails when properties matching your criteria (location, price etc) are listed.
I've never tried them myself, so I don't know how effective they are.0 -

Based on what? Have you taken a poll? Has someone else done so?0 -
I can see both sides of this one.

As far as everyone else is concerned, a private sale is one that doesn't involve an estate agent, not one in which the public have not had the opportunity to engage.

On the one hand, a private deal is a closed deal, not a public deal. So as soon as you start to advertise publicly, it's no longer private.
On the other hand, a private deal is a deal that excludes other parties - the EA.
I'd lean towards calling the second a "direct" deal, though.0 -
When I was buying, I'd have been very annoyed if an agent phoned me. For the very reason I'm capable of browsing myself on RM and deciding what I like. I think you're being unreasonable in expecting market updates from them.
.
Well, that would be you. Seems that the OP has specifically requested that the EA's do this for him.0
