Renault Megane - pay £1000 to fix or scrap?

So I've just had an MOT done and it's going to cost £470 to fix the problems.

As well as this, I had to call the RAC as it wasn't starting because the dash backlight stayed on causing the battery to drain. I'm not 100% sure what's causing this, but from some googling and the garage agrees, that it's probably the control module.

To diagnose this will cost £80, plus around £300-400 for the part if it is the control module, and then labour on top.

Basically I'm looking at a bill of around £1000 to fix the issues.

The car is a 1.6 Renault Megane estate, 85,000 miles on the clock, and I paid £1300 for it just over a year ago.

I've looked at scrapping and webuyanycar quotes about £120.

I don't know where else I can sell a car with a failed MOT for more than this - suggestions appreciated.

Is it worth paying for the repairs, or should I just scrap the car and buy a new one?

    There's currently a 1.6 Renault Megane Estate with an electrical fault parked in my allocated parking space (see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5582224). It had 84,000ish miles on the clock at the last MOT.

    Pure coincidence? :rotfl:

    Bottom line - £1000 for another year of more of motoring isn't too bad, if the car is otherwise OK. If you buy a new car - if you buy brand new, you'll lose that amount in depreciation the moment you drive it off the forecourt. Buy used, you could be faced with a similar bill six months down the line. You know the history and condition of your current car. If it's generally sound apart from the known problems, get it fixed and keep it. My current car has done 160,000 miles, and - touch wood - is costing me less than a couple of hundred quid every other year or so in repairs and maintenance.

    Never self diagnoseyoura car and tell a garage what you think it is if its an expensive part they will follow your lead until you've spent a good amount and all that it could need is a simple relay literally Clios are a known monster for electrical issues with the control module under the passenger side dash and a simple remove take top auto lecky and ask for 2 new relays to be soldered in and reflowed PCB and its good to go.
