Npower back billing?

I have just received a bill from npower for around £4000 even though we left the previous property (and npower) in mid December 2015, they have explained that it is due to them mixing up the day/night tariffs and have backdated to 2012 when we first went with npower. They explained on the phone that it is there error (although conveniently added that it was ours also) and that it may well be written off following complaints looking into it however, if it is not written off, can someone explain to me the back billing code of conduct, it states no more than 12 months but, I can't clarify whether this means from when we received this bill or, when we left npower, any help would be appreciated

    Hi PaulField

    Thanks for your post.

You can view the Energy UK Code of Practice for Accurate Bill's site here: !!!!!!/1B1Efo6. This is a voluntary code which npower has signed up to. The basic outline of this is that we won't charge you any extra for energy used more than 12 months ago that we haven't already billed you for, minus any payments you've made.

Therefore, if you've received a bill this month, we can charge you additional charges from January 2016 onwards, but anything prior to that should be written off, unless you've already received a bill previously with those charges on.

We're more than happy to look into this for you if you can use the details on our profile page to provide us with your account details.

    Kind regards

    Jess :)
