Can i still claim/request info?

So about a year ago out of the blue i had a letter from HSBC indicating they may have mis-sold me a PPI type product on a loan i had.
I filed the paperwork honestly and to the best of my knowledge and received a payment back in the post. Very nice!
Now i have been thinking about a couple of other credit cards i had at a similar time that i may have had a similar PPI insurance on them.
I was young, straight out of uni and needed to rely on credit cards (and the HSBC loan) at the time. However i was in a steady full-time job so, as with the HSBC loan, it was deemed that the PPI was not actually suitable for me, hence the re-payment.
The problem is whilst i can remember the banks (Egg, MBNA & Marks & Spencer) i have no paperwork left.
It would have been around 2005/2006/2007 time
I know the addresses i would have been registered to, but without any paperwork and the timescale, i think it will be unlikely the banks/lenders involved would still have records?
I'm not trying to just grab more PPI claim refund, i'm pretty sure the MBNA one did not have the insurance, however i think the Marks & Spencer did, i'm more intrigued to see if i can still claim with it being such a long time ago?
I know i could just call up someone like the claims guys, but they sound like a pain in the... and they would take a large cut if it were deemed that i was eligible for a claim.
Has anyone had any experience of a similar situation? Or should i just mark it down to experience and forget about it?

And do nothing that you have done yourself.I know the addresses i would have been registered to, but without any paperwork and the timescale, i think it will be unlikely the banks/lenders involved would still have records?
Records do get destroyed over time but it tends to be on a phased basis. Mid to late 2000s may still have full enough records as the PPI had already started by the time they would normally have started destroying stuff.
