Applications to 0% balence transfers, limits and credit rating

Options
Hi
I does anyone one know if you can apply for a 0% balance transfer card to find out what credit limit they will offer, to allow you to shop around before applying?

For example I have £8000 on a credit card which is also collecting allot of interest. I filled in the application for a 0% card, it did the online credit check and got a credit limit of £3000. I excepted this thinking if I turned it down then did the same for another supplier it would effect my credit rating.

Are you able to check the limit they are offering and shop around without it effecting the credit score, before excepting the one that fits best?

Thanks if you can help i'm just worried if i apply for another and it offers less than the remaining balance I will damage my credit score.

The CC companies will do a soft search to decide whether they offer you a card or not, this will not affect you credit report. If you proceed, they will do a full search and then decide the amount of credit that they will offer, this will affect your report. There is no way of knowing beforehand how much credit they will offer you.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

No. Limits are determined upon successful application, with very few exceptions.

But any BT is better than no BT.
  • Nationwide give you an indication of a credit limit on a soft search but it is not guaranteed. It's the only one that I know of prior to a full application. Be warned though others on here have reported issues with it in terms of acceptance on full application.
