Hi all,
am considering this to save money
anyone know how the freesat boxes compare to the Virgin Tivo box, which I like?

I'm very happy with my Humax HDR-1100S which I purchased a couple of months ago. It's an excellent replacement for my Sky+ HD box now that I've cancelled my subscription for the time being.

I've no idea how the Humax would compare to a Virgin TiVo box though as I've never used one.

If you are staying with virgin for broadband, and you tell them you want to cancel TV, they often say you can keep the tivo a couple of days after cancelling.

So don't buy a new box before they have asked for it back

But all your recordings will become inaccessible when your TV service is removed!

No. If they let you keep the TiVo, they give you basic TV and you can view recordings. Can't remember if the premium channel recordings can be viewed or not. Unlikely.

The main point it that you still have a recorder that you know how to use

hmm. I think if I do this I will probably switch broadband to BT as I would like BT sport

Its a bit of a dilemma, I'm basically happy with Virgin just sceptical of the need to pay a monthly sub when all I watch is free channels.

If you're switching to BT, you may be able to get a Youview box with them - that'll give you access to BT Sport (with a subscription of course. Youview is Freeview, plus on-demand stuff from the internet. If you do this, you can record Freeview programmes, meaning you don't need a Freesat box (or dish). You'll need an aerial. If you've already got a dish, then you might want Freesat.
