Problem with my Car Stereo

Options
Hi,
I have just bought a secondhand V reg (1999) Daewoo Matiz. It has the original car stereo but the previous owner lost the front removeable control panel and can not remember it's make and model. Can anyone tell me the make and model of the stereo? and can I get the front panel from the manufacturer? or would I have to buy a new stereo?

    As Daewoos have standard DIN-fit stereos installed, it'll probably be just as cheap to buy a brand new stereo -- which will doubtless be better quality as well. I think I'm right in saying these cars had a radio cassette rather than CD, yes?

    You can buy a brand new CD player with MP3 for £60-70, and a CD-only unit is around £50. A new front panel for the existing one is likely to cost around £50 because you'll need to buy direct from the manufacturer.

    Not worth it IMHO. Just buy a new stereo. If you get it from someone like Halfrauds they'll fit it for free :)

    yes, jjames is correct, it'l be cheaper getting a new unit.
    daewoo might not even be able to provide you with a replacement.

    halfords do one for £100 i think, and its a cd/mp3 unit which has a free fitting on it, its a kenwood brand unit.

    or if you want cheap and cheerful, not worried about brand, just pick up a budget one from argos or even eBay!

    Thanks for your answers and I have decide to buy a car cd player as it will be cheaper.
  • my matiz 2001 has a Sony XR-1800R - dunno if it's the original - needs a special sony key to remove it.

    if you've got a different stereo - often there a 4 holes (1 at each corner) which you got to stick a road down to release - each side simultaneously. a strip of coat hanger bent into a u-shape works well

    if u buy a new one--->
    aldi have a neat stereo for 49.99 at the moment - it plays mp3 files on cd + cd's.

    beware ebay stereo's may be locked - make sure u get the code with it

    KittyKat I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread?

    I've got a Kenwood 'Mask' CD player in my car and I need a replacement 'ribbon' (the plastic strip thing that makes it flip over). I've been quoted between £50-60. Could I get it cheaper anywhere other than manufacturer?
