Differing Credit Scores

Hey everyone,

I've been checking mine and my partners credit scores today and I am slightly confused by the outcome.

I first went to a website called clearscore which my sister uses and it told me I had a good score (400-500) and my partner an ok score (300-400).

I then thought to have a look on MSE to find out what I could do to bump my score, when I realised I could check my score on here now, so I happily signed up and checked my score, to find that both mine and my partners scores were classed as excellent (900+).

Which score should I believe, because one of them means I need to do some bumping up and the other means I can leave it alone and keep plodding along as I have been?

Comments

  • You should believe neither. Both are largely meaningless punts at giving you a number to become obsessed by. They're not seen or used by anyone but you.

Ignore both and ensure the data is correct on all three files.

Believe whichever 1 you want but it wont mean anything. Heres another curveball, check noddle and experian which will give you 2 other scores to look at.

Put all 4 on a wall, get some darts, blindfold yourself and theow the darts, whichever score a dart is on target for or is closest too believe that score.

    Believe both!

Every lender has different criteria, and uses different credit reference agencies.

Also, part of the reason for different figures on Clear Score and the MSE one is the "total" it is based on. Clear Score is out of 700, and MSE I think is 999
