Why didn't you claim direct from Sony in the first place, under the manufacturer's warranty? It'll be Sony UK, or their repair agents, who actually repair it. That would have saved you further dealings with the clowns at DSG. They're not classed as 'Britain's worst retailer' for nothing-that accolade was hard earned...
I'd agree that £400 is far too low, OP should be offered about £550.

Are Currys still selling your exact same model, if so that is the value you require.

The life expectancy the manufacturers give for flat panel TV's is at least 7 years on average viewing. We have an 8 year old Sony LCD that is in use every day for at least 10 hours each day, it's never been a problem and the picture is as good as the first time we switched it on.

Contact Currys head office if the local store doesn’t improve their ridiculous offer.

I think many people are missing out on the facts here.

The OP has been paying for a care plan (£7 or £7.50 a month), so is entitled to a new TV of equivalent or similar spec.

If currys are still selling the same TV, then they should send the OP a replacement.

Also Currys have lost the TV

This is not a standard warranty repair, where it may be acceptable to deduct for wear and tear. Currys have been negligent in losing the OP's TV which they may have been able to repair.

I left a very good watch in for repair once, and the jewelers lost it, they replaced it with a very similar watch brand new, despite mine being 10+ years old.

I would definitely go back to curry's and request the same TV

The reason I asked right at the beginning what model the TV was (other than being a Sony Bravia which we were told in the first post) is because it is very unusual for a model of TV to still be the same price ten months later, the technology is moving forward so fast with replacement models being brought out two to four times a year, I'm wondering if maybe the one they have now for the same price may be a slightly newer model and could be why they won't offer it as a replacement. We've been doing a lot a research into TVs for a while now waiting for a good deal on a decent one and almost everything we looked earlier last year if still available was in the £800-£1100 price bracket then and is in the £450-£700 price bracket now. Others have already been discontinued in that same timeframe.
  • Was the TV taken for repair for a manufacturers fault or for accidental damage?
A lost TV would normally be replaced like for like, however, if the TV was being repaired under the terms of the care plan after 10 months, this would indicate 'damage' hence the offer of a replacement voucher.
Best advice is visit the store, speak to some one on the knowhow desk and see if they can bump up the voucher value (as already advised).
