Legoland in August

Options
Hi, we are thinking of taking our 6 and 8 yr olds to legoland Windsor in august for a couple of days. From Belfast it seems flying to Heathrow is the obvious choice. Where is the best place to stay and will we need to hire a car? We'd like to stay 3 nights, do Lego on days 1 & 2 and some sightseeing in Windsor on day 3 before flying home on day 4. Does this sound reasonable.
Thanks for any help or advice.

I wouldn't go in August , I'd go as soon as schools break up as schools in England break up two weeks later, so fewer crowds and queues

I took our grandson a few years ago. Booked the hotel at Bracknell and got two days in Lego and three nights hotel ( 3rd day we went to London to see the dinasours and sightsee )

Bracknell was easy enough train journey with a five minute walk to hotel. Bus direct to legoland arriving 30 mins before opening

Hotel being in the town centre meant there was nothing to do really. We ate at weatherspoons or got pizza to the room. Bought packed lunch meal deals in sainsburys on the way for the bus and bought a refillable drink bottle in the park One done us 3 cos you just fill it up as often as you want

Legoland is great fun. Remember swimming togs and towels for the kids, they will want to get soaked :)

I agree that you woudl be better going before the other UK schools break up as it is always heaving in August and you spend ages in queues so dont get a lot done (once in August we went on 4 rides but had Merlin annual passes). If you avoid a Saturday night stay, hotels will be cheaper. It will probably give you more options hotel wise and be cheaper than paying for 4 peoples travel if you can hire a car.

Gatwick Mon 3 July and return Thur 6 July for £38 pp currently according to Skyscanner and it would be under an hours drive to Legoland from there. You could look maybe at nearby Travelodges or Premier Inns. It is about an hours drive from there into London (you could park up at a tube station on the way or extend your stay and stay at a Travelodge or Premier Inn outside of London). You can look out for 2for1 entry vouchers.

We're annual pass holders and have stayed at the Travelodge Heathrow Terminal 5 before. It's right on the M25, about 20 mins drive to Legoland and similar to Chessington and Thorpe Park.

Of course you can stay at the legoland hotel onsite but it is extremely expensive. We live only 45 mins before drive away but have stayed there one night as a treat for the kids. You get into the park early if you stay at their hotel.
  • We've stayed at Beaumont Estate once and was really nice for kids, free cookies and swimming pool. Legoland do short breaks through their site and 2nd day is free at the moment.

I wouldn't hire a car as it will be expensive. Legoland has directions on website. Beaumont Estate may also require a taxi but this will be cheaper than car hire. Windsor itself is lovely. Castle is worth a visit and there's now a Windsor Duck Tours as well as boats down the river.

I would try someone like Windsor Cars for transport http://www.windsorcars.com/airport-taxis/. Haven't used them but car hire is very expensive and driving isn't that pleasant in crowded places plus you don't need to travel that far.
