EDF eco 20 20 meter stuck

Hi, my eco 20 20 meter has been stuck on the same reading for off peak since July last year. EDF were having problems with their contractor and it has taken 6 months to get a replacement meter. EDF have said that they won't charge me for any off peak usage, but surely the meter has been recording all my usage at peak rate throughout this time. I have asked this question and been told that even though the meter is stuck it would still be switching automatically to off peak internally. But we have no radio switch, off peak is switched by an electromechanical time clock, should i believe what they are telling me? I think that I am due a large rebate on our bill, we use off peak assiduously. Can anyone advise? I am particularly suspicious because if you add our potential off peak usage to our new bill it would be much higher than normal. Hope this makes sense! Thanks

Welcome to MSE :hello:
You have the meter so can take meter readings. Presumably when you say the meter is stuck, you mean it is recording energy used, but is not switching registry. You can check yourself what the meter records during off peak period.
With your meter reading records, you can establish what exactly the supplier eventually bills you for. Until they bill you, you don't really have a complaint (save for not having a bill).
If they don't bill you in accordance with what they have agreed with you, then you can complain. Keep that record of them agreeing not to bill you for your off peak usage - it may be needed later as evidence.
Normally, where a meter is proven to be faulty, the supplier may use estimated readings to bill you. Taking 6+ months to change a meter that is proven to be faulty is cause for complaint in itself, imho.0 -
That's a very good point, I'll watch the meter tonight to see what it's doing - and I'll take some photos, thanks for that thought! Yes the off peak reading has been the same for six months, which means to my mind that it isn't switching over to the cheap rate - EDF say it is despite that.0

Have a look at the built in clock on the meter. The switchover times are built into the digital clock.9pm to 7am I think is the night rate timing on 20-20 meters so see if the day register advances during the night time between 9pm to 7am. If the clock is out, that will change the times alsoThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
