Barclaycard Direct Debit Issues

I'm a new Barclaycard customer having transferred a balance in November.

I set up a Direct Debit payment, had all the usual confirmations and thought all was fine. Payment was taken as expected, then boom - direct debit returned - the transaction marked as 'Returned Direct Debit'.

I was initially told I'd cancelled it (I definitely hadn't), but after raising a complaint was told it was a system issue and had impacted a lot of other customers. I paid manually over the phone and re-set up the DD at the same time. Then had a phone call explaining everything and also a letter. Had all the DD set-up confirmations too.

Double checked the DD on the Barclaycard site last week, all seemed fine, and the January payment was actually in progress. Then I logged in tonight to find that the payment has been credited, but at the same time the same amount had been debited but this time as a 'Debit Adjustment'.

I've since checked my Barclays current account and it seems there's no DD set up at that end.

Has anyone else had these issues?

How difficult can it be for a bank to set up a DD between two of their own companies?! :mad:
