Windows 10 Boot times ?

Last BIOS time 3.3 seconds. SSD, 8gb ram. HP Envy.
It's like a little drag racer.
My last BIOS time is 2.5 seconds on an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro laptop with 8gb and an SSD.
Boot up is only a few seconds plus the time it takes me to type my password. That is so much faster than any previous laptop I have owned.0 -
This seems like a complete waste of time, there are so many variables that any posts are going to be pointless.
If you want faster boot use sleep mode or this hybrid sleep
http://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/
You could also disable bloatware, change AV, disable the "update" services for 3rd party apps like Google Chrome, Skype, Flash and so on.
You could disable services that are not really used in your environment.
If you want to compare PC's and system specs then Toms Hardware or a benchmark site might give you what you are looking for. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
^^ the only pointless post here is yours.
Im not interested in sleep mode or hybrid sleep or i would have asked those questions
Im also not asking for opinions on how to improve boot time, perhaps its best you re-read the OP ?might give you what you are looking for.
The answers above yours gave me what i was looking for .. thanks to those who contributed0 -

If someone wants to go ever so slightly off track ... so what ?

Hi
I rate mine in the minutes, probably 1 - 2.
It gets to a desktop, and still needs another minute to start any app. Debian is the fastest.
But Last Bios Time was 3.1 seconds.
Last try was...
Login Screen 45 secs (skipped Grub etc).
Desktop was 105 seconds.
Browser loaded 225 seconds.
So to be able to turn on and check my email is about 4 minutes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hi all, after reading many different users experiences regarding windows 10 I find myself wondering how different machines vary as the vast majority of my real world experience is in a corporate environment.
I'm interested to see how boot times vary .. Ill start
Machine spec : OptiPlex 9020m, core I7, 8GB, 128SSD, W10Pro
Boot time from cold start to workable desktop is 23 seconds (including the time to type my password)
Dell Precision T3500 Xeon Hex Core Processor 12 GB 250 GB Samsung SSD.
I've not actually used a stopwatch but I would estimate it is similar or slightly quicker than yours.
Depends a bit on what you mean by a "workable desktop". If you are content to have a few things still going on in the background it is maybe nearer to 15 seconds.
Having said all that I do wonder how effectively we all use the few seconds we are so desperate to save? :rotfl:0 -
Have overall boot times increased or decreased over the years as PC specs have (dramatically) improved but resources have been (even more dramatically) increased - I mean Windows 3.1 on a 33Mhz 386 with 1Mb RAM used to take a similar time to my 3.9Ghz i7 / 16Gb RAM beast (when running a HDD) to boot to usable state !!
So - things have not improved, speedwise over 25 years !
It is just that the resources required have increased quite a bit over the years - is that a good thing though ?0 -
I turn the computer on & go brush my teeth.Undervalued wrote: »

I do remember the old Amstrad that gave you enough time to cook a meal. Although you couldn't cook a meal as you had to be at the computer to swap floppies & click buttons every now & then.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
