Mending my cooker

At the weekend I had 2 rings on full. Turned one down and there was a flash from the dial and the cooker circuit tripped.

I think I need a new dial and thermostat behind but it seems impossible to access. Have been looking online for instructions/exploded diagram but no joy yet.

Cooker is a Creda Carefree 40077 - so nearly 40 years old...

Has anyone had any luck finding manuals for early models?

40 years old will be obsolete, you will never find parts that old. I would be looking for a new cooker.

here ya go, a very quick search revealed this....

As for getting into it...well it should be reasonably obvious....

I've never had problems finding rings or elements, Tony.

Kev - where it says "dual" is that for the double ring? Only one of the ordinary rings has blown.

Still haven't found a way to access the dials. They're set on a raised upright part behind the rings, not in the front, sealed behind glass. No likely looking screw heads to be seen!

It's deteriorated now that the main trip goes if I do much as turn the cooker switch on.
  • There should be a cover on the back of the control panel. The controls themselves might be fixed to the front panel either with a couple of screws or a nut around the spindle, you'll find out which if you pull the knob off.

Took me an hour to remove regulator this morning and tape up wire ends. It doesn't s made of Bakelite and I can't see similar online (pic to follow).

All other rings now work. Put oven on and it's tripped the switch again!
