Travel insurance claim help

Advice needed please.
We just had to return home early from a holiday because unfortunately my partners father passed away while we was on holiday. I'm looking to make a claim through out travel insurance but as I am reading it that I might have to pay a £140 per person excess on a £1000 limit claim, as there are 5 of us I will only get £300 back at best?

Surly I am the only one claiming as I am the only person at a financial loss?
Can anyone help me clarify as if I have to pay an excess per person it will not be worth the bother getting all the paperwork need from gp and death certificates etc.

Many thanks in advance

The £1000 cover is usually per traveller (Assuming they are all covered by your policy).

Be aware there may be issues if your father had exisiting medical conditions that you did not declare and these conditions are connected to his death.

  • Ok. Well the total about off loss is about £1200 so on the form it gives me boxes to fill out the claimants do I just put me in that box or is it my partner and children as well it's all a bit confusing as my children can't make a financial claim to anything but they had no choice but to travel home with me.

I would be inclined to put the Policyholder's name first (The lead name on the Travel Insurance Policy) with the cost of the holiday next to their name, then list the other family members below.

It may be prudent to put a * further down and confirm that the total amount you are claiming for is £1200.

I would recommend you send all the documents they ask for and keep photocopies of everything.

P.S Sorry to teach you to suck eggs, but in the future check the excess cost as well as the cost of the premium.
  • Maybe I'll ring them tomorrow and confirm that the excess is per person and if it's 1000 limit per claim, because if so it's not worth claiming.
Those terms makes the policy almost worthless. I don't know how they can charge 5 excess if only one person is claiming a loss.

Who are you insured with and under which plan?

It's very easy for us to check
  • It was Thomas cook.
    Policy family value plus
The underwriters are white horse administration services
Thanks that would be a great help

I can't find that policy wording, do you have a link?
  • as I'm a new user I'm not allowed to add links but if u google white horse travel insurance wording it's there. The wording is the same just the figures are different to my booklet
    Thanks again

    I still can't find it.

If you copy and paste the link but remove the "www" and also the "co.uk" or "com" it will work

I tried that too - I get a Thomas Cook Policy wording underwritten by White Horse BUT the minimum cover level is called Bronze and the cancellation / curtailment is up to £2,500 per person with an excess of £100 which does not sound like what you are citing.

If you look in the wording it should tell you the "Master Policy Certificate Number" which in the above example was WH14GRP0001. If you paste that in to a reply - maybe we can google just that?
I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.
