Ordering a new front door off the internet

Looking into replacing our front door, and liked the look of Nudor as we can get a composite door in our choice of colour! But I am a bit worried - we'll obviously need to find a fitter, but what happens if it doesn't fit? Does anyone have any experience of that company please?

Thats the rub. Find a fitter and order off themDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

When I was looking for our doors, ordering online was an option, but then you get the problem of, if there are problems then you may get stuck between a rock and a hard place with one blaming the other. Then the question is that person 'certified' to installing that door type, or even know what they are doing!
If you order online and it does not fit, then the problem is yours to sort out... probably leaving you with a door that's non returnable!
We had 2 rockdoors fitted about a month ago and found a local-ish certified rockdoor fitter to install for a lot less than I thought, and I think it even worked out cheaper than buying one off the internet an getting somebody to fit it!
Even if you can get it cheaper by doing it online, its often worth paying a bit more for a quality supplier and installed.0 -
Or you can go with a company that does supply and fit and comes out to measure up for you before processing your order, so if it doesn't fit the hole when it arrives, it's their problem to sort out, not yours

Nudoor seems to be a business with no trading address listed on its website, which is something of a no-no in legal terms.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
It is always best to order the door pre-fitted to the frame. That way, when it arrives, the fitter (or yourself if you are brave enough) can re-measure the old frame prior to removal and, if needed, plane the new frame down to fit.
You should have a 2mm gap all round to allow for expansion and this will be filled with expanding foam which is then trimmed back to the frame and mastic applied.
Never done a door myself, but that is how they fit the doors on the site I am on (I am planning on fitting a new front door myself and took time to not only watch the chippies fitting the doors, but ask them questions as well).Never Knowingly Understood.

Never heard of this company be careful with composite doors many are made from door blanks from china .We install Rockdoors as mentioned above and have done for 24 years and have had very few problems in all those years .As said above the installation is very important and you are much better buying from the same place with some sort of warrantyif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

2mm to allow for expansion and filled with expanding foam are you serious by what you are saying here i would seriously not attempt to fit a door yourselfif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0 -
The reason we particularly looked at this company is that they offer a RAL colour matching service, but having tried a couple of fitters they want to do supply as well, and won't just fit, so I may struggle to find anyone anyway. And no, I agree, DIY is NOT an option. I've tried looking locally and I think there's a place that does RAL UPVC options fitted, so might have to go with that.
SplanK, it's not about the money - RAL colour isn't particularly cheap. It's about being pretty! I am fussy. :rotfl: The door is the original, and when we moved in I did a bit of paint investigation, and found out what colour it was originally, then repainted it in the original shade. It's a fab bright blue-y turquoise, and I love the colour. I don't really want to lose that. There's nothing actually wrong with the door, it's just cold and draughty! So maybe I'll just wait until more places offer nice colours...0 -
If you get along to the homebuilding and renovating show at the NEC in March there are often a number of door suppliers there and you could talk to a few in one day to explore colour options.
I went a few years ago and found the front door I wanted that way. I'm pretty fussy as well and each door I found that I liked more ended up costing more, the one I bought was basically a month's take home pay :eek:Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

It may not be about the money but you are prepared to buy a product despite not knowing anything about the company i have spoke to a few people over the last couple of days who have also never heard of them despite being in the industry are these steel doors ? . i have found there website online and brochure which is sparse to say the least offering only two telephone numbers and an email for contact no company address and no energy rating on the door then should that not work you are prepared to get a now inferior upvc door just because of a ral colour ? i know what most people would be more interested in .And as an aside do you know which is the worst colour for heat distortion in doors BLUEif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0 -
