Printer advice

Can I have some advice please? Looking for an air printer to print off our i pads, light user only occasional colour photo printing.Would it be worth getting a colour laser? Can anyone recommend an ink jet printer that uses compatible ink cartridges. I wouldn't leave the printer on, and I assume would use ink to do a clean each time I switched it on. Thank you

If the printer is going to spend long periods unused, as in not being used at least a couple of times a week or more then a laser is a better option than an inkjet. If inkjet printers aren't used regularly the ink dries up in the print nozzles eventually rendering the printer useless.
