Hi
My Electric meter was last read in July 2015, it has now just been read in December 2016 and has not moved in that time period. Am I liable for the electricity and how do they work it out. I have been paying a DD every month and am in massive credit with this. Who is liable for the meter, me or them?

The supplier will usually arrange for the meter to be changed free of any charge to you (the exception is if they find it was deliberately damaged)
Yes you have to pay for the energy you have used .. but it sounds like you are doing this anyway on a monthly basis.
If the supplier cannot obtain an accurate meter reading, they will estimate consumption.0 -

'Massive credit': that doesn't make any sense. If you haven't been providing the supplier with regular readings, the supplier should have been sending out bills based on estimated readings. These may not be 100% accurate but I wouldn't have thought that you would not have been left with a massive credit balance. Also, what happened to the Annual Review?0 -
Two meters I see all the time either stopping or going blank are the old Sangamo Weston which sticks and just show a blank on the single unit (5th dial ) usually after two 9s.. I ve found two last month.A sharp thump on the side of the meter will get it going again. The Landys and Gyr and Ampy meters, small white ones are always going blank. They only cost a fiver I was told and that is all they are worth judging by the amount of trouble and lost revenue they cause.
Estimate on past usage is the standard method, you are definitely liable for the estimated usage. In the T/C s you will find a section where you should be reporting any faulty meters ASAP to the supplier firstly , NOT to a forum. Suppliers will under estimate usually.
I would deduct at least 6 months d/d off your "massive credit " then you can see what you are owed more realistically0
