More than auto renewal of house insurance on old property

Hi All,

We have just noticed that we have been paying More than home insurance twice a month as they have been charging for a home insurance policy on our old house(which we are sure we cancelled when we moved) for the last 3 years by direct debit. We did not notice that we were paying twice as they payments were coming out of two different accounts. We have spoken to them and they have said it has been auto renewing and it is our fault as we did not cancel it. However how can we prove this? My husband spent a day changing all the addresses and changing bills over when we moved over to the new house but they claim we never contacted them. Do we have any rights as we were paying for 2 policies with them but for 2 different addresses. We have lost about £1080 :(
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Fairly easily sorted. You have what is known as dual insurance. You need to let them know the details of your other insurance for the whole period and they will liase with the other provider and between them they will sort of a refund.

A useful reminder as to why you should reconcile your bank accounts at least once a month.

Well, not quite that simple because the "dual insurance" is between their policy and (presumably) someone else's policy. It's their previous home that was accidentally insured, not two policies on their current home.

Do you have something from your lawyer or estate agent confirming the sale of the old house?
