So it looks like I'm completing on 27th January - so now my heads in overdrive trying to plan everything I need to do before then. I'm currently renting, so hoping it's a lot more simple to make all the changes
So far we have:
- sort buildings (and contents) insurance for new house
- cancel gas/electric payments from rental house
- set up gas/electric for new house
- set up water for new house
- set up internet for new house
- change bank details, etc, to new house
What else do I need to add to that list? :rotfl:

Use google.
There are dozens of sites giving 'to do' lists.0 -
Only do it when you've exchanged, not before!

re-direct mail via post office/online. A long time since I last had to do it.
Have you arranged to start the insurance on the day of exchange (not the day of completion!)0 -
Hi!
I'm in similar situation: after exchanging before completion. I'm using google to see to do list but it's depend on circumstances that's why I'm asking what should I do in my position.
I'm renting a room with fixed pay every month so not having a problem with my current supplier.
What should I do right now?
What I did
- I let my landlord know I'm moving out.
- I'm buying a flat so leaseholder is insuring a building I will just pay what he will ask
- I signed in deed on mortgage
What I was thinking to do
- I know gas and electricity which is in a flat which I'm buying but after checking on MSE energy club I want to use other one. Should I inform old provider that I will be the new owner or just my new provider which I chose? Similar thing with internet provider.
- I will be using the same water provider (btw is there any side with comparison of water suppliers?). Should I inform them that I will be new owner from 25th of january?
- should I start changing bank, dvla etc addresses as I was thinking I will do so after completion when I will be 100% sure flat is mine?
- I need to pay deposit.
Anything else after exchange, before completion?0 -
Council tax (are you moving within the same authority?)
Book removals or van hire
TV licence
Car change of address (insurance, vehicle and licence)
It's worth advising HMRC of the change of address, there have been a few threads recently from people who have failed to receive important mail because they thought the change would be advised by their employer0 -

You should be taking advice about that from your solicitor rather than any other "adviser", but yes it may be possible. Makes it tricky for those things which require advance notice though.elly.alice wrote: »We're hoping we can complete and exchange on the same day - pretty sure my adviser said that would be possible? Am I wrong?0 -
I'm asking what exactly should I do between exchanging and completion because in the internet there is a lot of confusing information.
I don't want to miss sth important but from the other hand I don't want to change addtesses etc when I'm not 100% sure about final buying this property as still not having the key.0 -
that's exactly why....the other hand I don't want to change addtesses etc when I'm not 100% sure about final buying this property as still not having the key.
and why same day Exchange/Completion is difficult.Only do it when you've exchanged, not before!
you cannoot e sure the purchase will go ahead till you actually Exchnge, so you can't do most of the arrangements in advance if you do both on the same day.
Book day off work, book removals, give notice on your rental etc etc and then,,, your purchashe is delayed or falls through..........0
