Warning: Maginon IPC 20C IP Camera (Aldi)

I posted this to an AV forum, but I think serves as a warning to others here thinking of buying the same camera as it is released to Aldi occasionally
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was given one of these security cameras as a gift and if I had the receipt it would be going back!
The first hurdle was that during the setup over a tablet (iPad 2) the error message " MC-RDR-006 Licence Not Found" appears. Having contacted Supra they tell me to send the details from the status page of the camera and they will register its licence. Spot the problem? Unless you can set up the camera you can't get to the status page!
However I found a spyware site on Google that gave a command line to the IP address of the camera (the only IP address on a scan that did not have a manufacturer by it) that gets you in. I then picked up the unique ID number from the status page, mailed it to Supra who then manually registered it.
Great, I thought I would use the alarm settings to send an email. After many unsuccessful attempts I get an email from Google saying that an insecure application is trying to access my account
Google will continue to block sign-in attempts from the app you're using because it has known security problems or is out of date. You can continue to use this app by allowing access to less secure apps, but this may leave your account vulnerable."
I mail Supra again who say I must allow less secure apps to use the mail facility to send .jpg files.
I am not going to do this, so used the ftp settings in the alarm screen. Having spent days using different settings and tweaking the Windows 7 firewall and router to allow activ and passiv ftp traffic on port 21, I do get jpg files sent by ftp to the correct address on an attached usb hard drive BUT they are 99% zero bytes.
The live image is actually good quality but I welcome any help in ftp-ing jpg files with content. People say use Filezilla for ftp not the built in W7 version but reading further there is still an issue with zero byte files.
Currently I just want to do this cabled to the router. Who knows what will happen when going wireless and trying to get to the ftp site externally!?
The camera does not have software to record video but Supra are now offering to host this for you for 4.99 Euro per month! I understand you can use different free VLC applications for this though?
At the moment any help to stop the zero byte files over ftp welcomed (I have updated the firmware and web interface)
TIA
If you have the box, to prove it came from Aldi, take it back and ask to see the manager. They are likely to refund .0
Although of course as a gift you have no legal right to ask the retailer for anything.0
We shop a lot at the local Aldi, where my daughter bought the camera, so may well try this.
The Maginon tech helpline is useless. I asked why zero byte video files are created 99% of the time by ftp and they just send a screen shot of the manual showing a typical ftp setup (which I have done professionally hundreds of times)
There are a lot of people having this issue with many types of cameras so you would think they might have a proper response!
TIA
