Wifi signal keeps dropping

Since Christmas our wifi signal has kept dropping. Prior to this it was a really strong signal. If we turn the router off and leave it for a few minutes it works ok for a while but then goes again. I changed the channel on Saturday that was being used after reading that new electrical equipment may cause problems as we got an X Box and TV for our children at Christmas. The signal was fine until yesterday morning when the problem reoccurred. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how it can be rectified? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new router. The existing one is about 5 years old and if this is possible the cause of the problem are there any recommendations as to what to get?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

more likely down to interference than the router breaking. In order to determine the best channel to use, get wifi analyser onto an android device from the playstore and see what channels near to you could be affecting yours, and set your router to use a less-nterfered with channel.
Other possible causes are dodgy power supplies in any electrical kit - had to replace a perfectly-serviceable tv in youngest's room because of this  and can be difficult to track down.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
