  • Good morning everyone,

I had an eventful but enjoyable weekend. The lowlight was that my car failed it's MOT and needs new rear brakes, to the tune of £250, so I had to take the train into work today (a further £11).

I should finish up here early to go an get the train back to my town and collect my car before the garage shuts. After that, I've not got any plans tonight.

    Hester - Good luck today.
TA - Hope today isn't too stressful.
Lainey - Thinking of you and your family
  • Morning (((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

I feel decidedly ropey this morning, not sure why, TV man came, checked the ariel, it was fine, TV needed tuning in!! Idiot why did I not think about that............... still cost £10. Chappie went onto the channel I was looking for and they were demoing quilting stuff...................

Bathroom floor needs a scrub, not sure if I will be able to do it, will have a bash, we have very hard water, it does not take long for it to discolour,
have to take the shower curtain down and wash it too, the bottom is yellow. We also need the council to come out and put more sealant on the casing where the pipes run.

Will try and do the Monday clean, depends how I feel after a cup of tea. Hope there is nothing nasty in the pipeline.
  • Morning all

I seem to be getting later and later these days. For some unknown reason I couldn't sleep last night so was reading in bed until 3.30am. When I woke up this morning I could hear the central heating pump working hard so we still have a problem with it not switching off. It must know that we cancelled our annual service agreement with BGas in Sept!

Have a hair appt later this morning and will make sure she doesn't cut it too short. My hair is so fine it looks messy very easily plus it seems to grow very quickly.

After that I've said I'll collect a parcel for DD from the Sorting Office. Trouble is it's the one several miles away, plus she's had to give me her id in case there's a problem.

Off to get going now. Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone

Lainey - sorry to hear DM is asking for further pain relief on a regular basis, maybe it's time to speak to the medical staff again and ask if the pain relief can be re-assessed. If she's not already fitted with one - it sounds like a morphine driver that administers the pain relief more readily might be needed to keep her more comfortable. I seem to recall this has been talked about previously. Also it may be due to the Hospice's policy it may be that your DM has to tell the staff she's in pain and needs pain relief. When we were going through this last year with our ill relative, the medical staff couldn't take instructions from us regarding giving more pain relief they needed ill person too.

Thinking of you, I completely understand how very difficult this is, but take comfort in that you're doing the best thing being there so regularly and making sure the staff keep her as comfortable as possible.

    Keep safe and well x

    Hello all,

On the cusp between morning and afternoon as I write so it is a generic "hello" (11:58am)!

Thank you nmlc for starting the thread. Thank you all for your well wishes regarding DH's cousin.

Hugs and thoughts to all the poorlies and those struggling with loss or heartbreak. I keep you all in my prayers.

Today I managed to get a cancellation appointment with the doctor (miracle!) regarding a health concern I have, she has referred me to have a scan, so crossing fingers it is nothing too serious.

The flu seems to have gone but I still get rather tight chested and a bit wheezy, but managed without using the pump. Had a decent night sleep for which I am grateful.

DH went to the art class where he will see our estranged daughter, I wonder how their meeting will go, I am glad I don't have to see her, much as my heart breaks, because it is just so hard to face her and know that anything she says might be a lie. I don't want to cut her off if she needs help but I also cannot cope any longer with her dishonesty. Distance suits me better at the moment, I have too much to cope with as it is.

We planned to go and visit DH's cousin tomorrow in the hospital on the South Coast, it will be two hours drive each way but we really want to see him. It was just a few days before Christmas that he treated us to a curry and we were laughing and joking, it is unbearable to think of this man, younger than both of us, paralysed and unable to communicate. It is a massive wake up call to live for the day as nobody knows what's around the corner. I am so sad for him, he is like a brother to DH, they were brought up together, it is really heartbreaking.

On a positive note, I am up and doing things (honestly, going to close the computer as soon as I finish this). Been to doctor, visited friends who I hadn't seen for a while, then came home and made lunch and the beginning of dinner.

Now before DH comes back I am starting tackling the decluttering of my bedroom. I am treating myself to a few hours of my lovely on and off cleaner, she is so lovely and does not mind being called only as and when needed. She will be here on Thursday and I want her to have a big go at my room, top of wardrobes etc, so a lot of clearing needs to happen before then.

Before I go, just a quick plug for our SE London meet up, it will happen on 1st February at 2 pm in the tea rooms of Charlton House, SE7, if anyone wants to come please have a look at the thread. I hope to meet a few of you in person, we made many lasting friendships through the meet ups.

I hope you all have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Gosh, that wind outside here is icy! There's interludes of bright cold sun and then long episodes of torrential hailstones with driving wind. Not nice.

I've been for laser, took yet more rubbish to the tip, did a small shop, bought bird stuff, posted two cards and then had some lunch. Bird feeders now filled again, I think they need the seeds and nuts in this biting wind.

There's a Val McDermid book 'winking' at me to pick it up, I suppose I really should!

Caterina - hope all's well with you, you've had an horrendous time recently so please take things a little easier, and be easy on yourself too.

Lainey - my thoughts are with you and your mum. It's very tough watching a beloved parent slip away, especially when they want to go. Give yourself some breathing space too. You need your physical and emotional strength for what's ahead.

    [QUOTE=redruby;7189234,
Still feel a bit ropey this morning but no where near as bad so off to work for me, OH seems to have it now, it really is the cold that keeps giving ! Considering having a flu jab next year has anyone had any experience with it ? does it stop colds ? We get offered a free one at work due to the nature of our jobs so might take it up.l.
    [/QUOTE]

R/R I have the 'flu jab every year as I have a impaired immunity ,a nice left-over from Chemo, and it does protect you from the flu virus, but this super-cold which we all have had is not 'flu. I daren't get flu as I would be hospitalised and on a drip. If you get the chance then get the jab, I will take anything to avoid being ill.
My eldest DD works as a business manager in a school and everyone is offered it as a matter of course

I had mine dose of the cold the week before Christmas and luckily I managed to be just about well enough to go to my DGS wedding on Christmas Eve, but it as you say is the gift that keeps giving, as you think its gone then wake up next day with your nose running like the Thames and snuffling like a warthog :)
My cough has only just eased a bit now and I spent a fortune on cough mixtures which did absolutely nothing. sadly its just got to run its course .

But I must admit its the first nasty cold I have had in around five years, as I make a point if I can of steering clear of crowded areas and folk who have a sniffle and I regularly wipe all door handles etc in my house with sanitiser. Eveyone in y family have had it and virtually everyone I know ,Even HM Queen was poorly over the holiday and she had to suffer like the rest of us bless her, palace or not its a rotten horrible bug . My friends Doctor told her time will cure it and just lots of fluid and rest .So I know how you are feeling its rotten .

Dropped DGS Ben off at Gatwick this morning and was really lucky as there was relatively little traffic on the road and managed a quick there and back in two and a quarter hours, M25 was running well.

I have to pick him up on Thursday night ,fingers crossed his flight will be on time as the cold weather is due later on this week.

Lainey I am thinking of you and how you are coping, its really horrible for both your DM and your family.I hope they can fit a pump driver for her

<<hugs to all who are having a bad time at the moment

Take care everyone and keep warm and dry if possible
