O/S Daily Monday 9 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, damp underfoot, but not as cold as it should be for this time of year, but forecast says end of the week things will change!

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work and DS2 still in his pit.

Lunch yesterday was lovely and everyone had a variety of meals, I did get my roast beef and lovely it was too, the only issue was the service was very slow, from ordering to actually getting the food was 3/4 hour - I think the problem here is that it's a big place and it has a very established pub - you can sit and eat in the pub or they have had a lovely big conservatory room added and you can eat in there and it overlooks the garden and down to the sea.

Today's meal plan was for fish, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg for dinner, but there's some LO chicken portions from Saturday night, so I'll see what I can find to do with those and we'll have that instead and the fish can be moved to another night.

I did get the pack ups etc organised before we went out yesterday so I got a chilled day once we got back, today I'll be getting stuck in to the washing, drying and ironing and I also want to sort out the kitchen food cupboard so I know exactly what we've got in stock, as from how full to bursting it is, I'm sure I could go a few weeks without buying several items, a classic example on Friday I was trying to put away the tinned/jars food I'd bought, and couldn't fit the jar of coffee in so thought I'd put it in another cupboard opened that cupboard and there already sits a full new jar of coffee that I'd obviously bought previously and couldn't fit in!

So I'm hoping to achieve something today - even if it is just the 2 things above, I do want to go to town this morning, I'll do that first thing as I want to visit the bank and pay some money off the cc, and the sooner that's done the better.

Keep safe and well x

Morning all, thanks for starting us off nmlc xx

Tube strike in London today which means a 40 minute walk to work from Charing Cross station. I have my boots on ready. The next few days will be pretty quiet at work as my boss is at an onsite meeting. I will be leaving at 4pm today to make the return journey. On the plus side, no need to go running as I will have done more than my steps for the day.

Dinner tonight is sausage and mash with Brussels and carrots. Nice and easy.

Good news about the new baby Gers - I'm intrigued about the name :)
    Lainey - hugs x

    Have a good day all,

    Morning All

Absolutely tipping down this morning and first day back at work after 2 weeks off, looking forward to seeing everyone but my colleague and very good friend is unwell so is signed off for a month, busy times ahead. There is another member of our staff but he's useless!

Got lots of 'little' jobs done yesterday and stocked up on logs, looks like it could get cold later in the week. Treated myself to a steak yesterday from Lidl, it was really good. Made cauli rice and had home grown kale to go with it.

Hope you all have a good week. Take care. XX

Off to work in a sec here, I have a meeting with m line manager this morning about new 'restrictions' that are being brought in! Maybe I'll be expected to do my job in the dark with one arm tied behind my back.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Doesn't feel too cold here atm but at the end of the week temperatures are meant to plummet down to -12  must let my mum know to get any shopping in early to save her having to go out.

Still feel a bit ropey this morning but no where near as bad so off to work for me, OH seems to have it now, it really is the cold that keeps giving ! Considering having a flu jab next year has anyone had any experience with it ? does it stop colds ? We get offered a free one at work due to the nature of our jobs so might take it up.

Left over roast chicken tonight, its all ready just need to heat it through so a nice easy meal.

Right best get on have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start. It's fine here for now but sounds quite windy.

I am not looking forward to today and have been putting it to the back of my mind. I have an appt at the hospital straight after lunch for the damned repeat cystoscopy. Not pleasant by any means and whether this one throws any light on the ongoing uti's and IC remains to be seen. They are at a loss as to what to do with me so it's always "keep taking the daily anti b". After three years of it I wish they would change the record!!

It will be a quick sandwich before we set off and dinner, when we get back, will be a warm up of yesterday's left over veg and mash. Some sausage defrosting to have with it. Not very exciting but it'll be quick and easy!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need/want of them. AOD hope you feel better after your w/e of not doing much. LAINEY xx Take care all whatever you are up to xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a bit chillier here this morning than it has been so I will definitely be putting the heating on in a minute. Hubby has gone back to work today and the girls are getting ready for school.

My friend was coming round but has messaged me to say she is not well and doesn't want to share her germs with me. My eldest DD is coming over for a cuppa once she has dropped the grandchildren off to school. All I am planning to do today is some more knitting in front of a film or two.

I put the slow cooker on last night with a lump of pork shoulder in it. I added chinese 5 spice, garlic and ginger, a bit of soy sauce and sesame oil and some tomatoes. It smells lovely this morning. I will chop up the pork later and make some egg fried rice to go with it.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone.

The rain lashed down for most of the night and it's forecast to last all week. Roll on spring.

Yesterday I had a pottering around kind of day. Today I'll have to be more focussed and do 'stuff'. And the upstairs PVR failed yesterday so I need to speak to JL as it's under warranty. Just a pain as it had all the Christmas / New Year programmes on so they're all gone.

Off to laser session this morning, we're slowly winning the battle, and then I need to buy some bird peanuts and sunflower seeds, the tubs are down to dust.

Thinking about you all. TA - I feel for you.

    Happy Monday.

Morning all, nmlc thank you for starting today's thread.
TA I do feel a bit more human now, I didn't do nothing all weekend, just decided not to do more than the basic minimum so house is not exactly sparkling but then it won't ever be. I have made a collie dog, a cat, a farmer and half of a lady farmer.
Still househunting but OH is so horrendously picky, I'm long past picky now.
Red Ruby I had the flu jab, surgery offered it on grounds of being over 65, still got that horrible cold that seems to be affecting the entire country now. I think the jab can only be effective against the strain of flu it is designed for.
I am off to work in a minute, a late start as I must go to a meeting in this area so not worth going into the city and back out. I'm working today, weds and Thurs this week, not my usual pattern so am bound to lose track sometime this week. I need to have a paperwork day at the office, difficult as I tend to get distracted and especially if interrupted, might need to either bring the lappy home or hide somewhere wearing a false moustache or something. If I do that, people may take the hint.
This morning so far I have achieved sweeping the kitchen, polishing my shoes and cutting my nails. Dinner will be latkes with leftover veg in, probably sausages with it. We should have lots of them in the freezer, otherwise chicken pieces.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible and my thoughts are with LaineyT.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc, that pub sounds a grand place for a meal.

Tough day yesterday, Mum is so fed up with it all and in her own words ready to go, she is asking for more and more pain relief as it all ramps up. All I can do is be there for her now. Stayed there until the evening and too late to cook the chicken so we stopped off for fish & chips. I had a glass of wine and took a Nytol so at least had a few hours sleep.
Will have some breakfast and get back over there.
Take care TA and everyone else have the best day you can x

Lainey, it's so hard isn't it, to watch them lingering on. At least my dad wasn't in pain but he didn't eat for 3 weeks, he didn't want to go though and fought every inch of the way. I hope your mum passes peacefully, take care of yourself.

I am now sitting in the half of the living room that has been decorated with the other half sealed of behind plastic. It's going to take longer to decorate that because DH is fitting recessed ceiling lights. We can't have a dangling light because the ceilings are not high and DH, SiL and DS are 6'2, 6'4 and 6'6 respectively, not to mention DD at 5'11 so we'd have a constant clanging of bashed heads. I live in a land of giants.

I need to buy a birthday card for Sis-i-l and also to go and complain in the vodafone shop. Their phone help is about the worst I've come across. I was even given a duff email address to write to by one advisor.

In contrast my happy event yesterday was a long whatsapp conversatio with DD in India. Only 3 more sleeps till they're back.
